摘要： Systems and methods that enable automated processing of specimens carried on microscope slides are described herein. Aspects of the technology are directed, for example, to automated specimen processing systems and methods for dispensing liquids onto slides. The system can concurrently or sequentially perform lock cycles. Each lock cycle can include lock steps for addressing respective slides to dispense liquid. The lock steps of different lock cycles can be synchronized to prevent any collision between dispensers.

A delivery head assembly (18) is mounted on the body (12) for movement across the diameter of the carousel (16). The head assembly contains a clear nozzle (20) and a spray nozzle (22). A version (50) of the spray nozzle (22) for spraying a fluid biochemical agent onto a slide (24) has a main body (52) a plug (56) in the main body (52) and a cap (54) on the main body (52) between which there is a swirl chamber (68) into which fluid passes from the body (52). The fluid enters the swirl chamber (68) such that flow in the chamber (68) is concentric to the chamber axis and thereafter flows from the body (52) through an exit (66), thus minimising damage to the biochemical agent.

In one example, among others, a system for processing microscope slides includes a slide positioner that can adjust a position of a slide and a slide treatment system that can dispense a micro stream of a fluid at a location on the slide when the slide is positioned beneath a jet nozzle of the slide treatment system. The system can include a slide sled that can align a smearing slide with a surface of the slide including a fluid sample is disposed, and support the smearing slide at a predefined angle with respect to the surface of the slide. In another example, a method includes obtaining a slide including a sample disposed on a surface, positioning the slide below to a jet nozzle, and dispensing a micro stream of a fluid onto the sample using the jet nozzle.
