    • The present invention relates to a chain drive for an internal combustion engine having a drive chain wheel, at least one driven chain wheel, a drive chain coupling the chain wheels, a pivotally mounted tensioning rail which is pressed against one of the strands of the drive chain, and a sliding rail which abuts another of the strands of the drive chain, wherein the tensioning rail and the sliding rail have a common base body which is mounted such that it can pivot about a common pivot axis, and the arcuate portion of a sliding surface of the sliding rail which comes into contact with the drive chain during operation has an axis of curvature or axes of curvature, and the arcuate portion of a sliding surface of the tensioning rail which comes into contact with the drive chain during operation has an axis of curvature or axes of curvature, and the distance of the axis of curvature which is associated with the sliding rail or the average distance of the axes of curvature which are associated with the sliding rail to the pivot axis of the base body is smaller than the distance of the axis of curvature which is associated with the tensioning rail or the average distance of the axes of curvature which are associated with the tensioning rail to the pivot axis of the base body, wherein the distance of the axis of curvature which is associated with the sliding rail or the average distance of the axes of curvature which are associated with the sliding rail to the pivot axis of the base body is smaller than 6 times, preferably smaller than 4.5 times, the chain pitch of the drive chain.     • The invention refers to a timing chain system comprising a crankshaft sprocket, at least one camshaft sprocket, a timing chain operably connecting the crankshaft sprocket and at least one camshaft sprocket and adjusting means for adjusting the phase or circumferential position of the at least one camshaft sprocket relative to that of the crankshaft sprocket. The current structural space for such a system shall be reduced. Therefore, the adjusting means comprises a pivotally attached tensioning rail which is biased against the inside of the slack strand of the timing chain between the crankshaft sprocket and at least one camshaft sprocket, a pivotally attached guide rail which is in contact with the inside of the taut strand of the timing chain between the crankshaft sprocket and at least one camshaft sprocket and an actuator for adjusting the pivotal position of the tensioning rail and the guide rail in order to adjust the phase or circumferential position of the at least one camshaft sprocket relative to that of the crankshaft sprocket. The invention also refers to respective adjusting means and a respective IC engine comprising such a timing chain system.

    • A chain guide includes roller element bearings (41) adapted to guide, while rolling, a timing chain through which torque is transmitted. The chain guide further includes a guide base (21) arranged along one side of the timing chain and having an opposed pair of side plates (22). Each side plate is formed with plural shaft engaging portions (25) arranged so as to lie on a circular arc. The chain guide further includes roller shafts (31) having their ends supported by the respective shaft engaging portions (25), and rotatably supporting the roller element bearings (41). An oil guide hole (26) is formed in a wall surface of each shaft engaging portion (25) facing the end surface of the roller shaft (31) so as to extend through the side plate to its outer side surface. With this arrangement, oil splashed by the movement of the timing chain (5) and adhered to the outer side surfaces of the side plates (22) can be introduced into the roller element bearings (41) through the oil guide holes (26).
