    • The invention relates to a gear shifting system, in which an axial shifting movement of a gear shifting element (7) in at least one shifting position and/or out from said position can be released by the interaction of a shifting rod (17, 18) with at least one associated, grove like gear shifting gate (15, 16), which is designed at least in sections in a variable manner in the axial direction. The aim of the invention is to provide a gear shifting system as compact as possible. Also, the respective shifting rod (17, 18) can be displaced radially, by means of an associated actuator (19, 22) between a base position and an engagement position in which the respective shifting rod (17, 18) can be introduced into the at least one associated shifting gate (14, 15).
