    • The invention relates to a multiple-disk brake (1) in an automatic transmission, having an inner disk carrier (4) and an outer disk carrier (6), further having inner disks (3) and outer disks (5) disposed in an axially alternating manner on the disk carriers (4, 8), further having friction linings (7) on the inner and outer disks (3, 5), having a piston (10) of a pressure medium-actuatable piston-cylinder arrangement, by which a force closing the multiple-disk brake can be applied to the inner disks (3) and outer disks (5), further having an end disk (9) away from the piston or a support disk (11) forming an axial abutment for the disk set (14) configured by the disks (3, 5, 9, 11), and wherein the multiple-disk brake (1) and/or the surrounding components are configured such that the disks (3, 5, 9, 11) can be wetted by a cooling oil. In order to cool the multiple-disk brake (1), even in slip mode phases and in a closed state, it is provided that the cooling oil (13), as a function of the operating status of the brake, can be conducted in radially different directions via and/or through the disk set (14). The invention relates also to a method for operating said multiple-disk brake.

    • A multi-disc brake assembly comprising a disc pack may desirably be liquid cooled (i.e. is “wet”) to dissipate the substantial heat generated from braking. In conventional assemblies, coolant fluid is generally delivered in a uniform manner to the discs in the disc pack. However, the heat distribution in the disc pack from braking is not uniform. But wear can be significantly increased where an inadequate amount of coolant is delivered, while drag can be increased unnecessarily where an excessive amount of coolant is delivered. In such an assembly, an improved coolant distribution can be obtained by appropriately varying the size of the numerous orifices which may be used to distribute coolant to the disc interfaces from an axial fluid rail provided in a rotating central shaft. Specifically, the orifices decrease in size from the middle to the ends of the disc pack.

    • A bicycle disc brake assembly (12) is provided with a brake disc support (30) with a pair of floating discs (32) and a bicycle disc brake caliper (21) with three friction pads (53a,b,c). The center or intermediate friction pad (53c) is a floating friction pad. The bicycle disc brake caliper (21) can be provided with a cooling system (24) that transfers heat away from the actuating fluid. The bicycle disc brake caliper (21) also has a housing (50) with a piston unit (51). The housing has a frame mounting member (54) sized to be coupled to a portion of a bicycle frame (16). The piston unit (51) is movably coupled to the housing (50) between a release position, in which the piston unit (51) is spaced from a brake disc (32) mounted to a wheel (17) of a bicycle (10), and a braking position, in which the piston unit (51) engages the brake disc (32) of the bicycle wheel (17). The coolant member (24) has a coolant area for receiving coolant to create a coolant heat sink that transfers heat from the housing (50). The housing (50) can have an actuating passage in fluid communication with the piston unit (51) to move the piston unit (51) via an actuating fluid. Alternatively, a cable instead of actuating fluid can be used to operate the piston unit (51).
