The connection of diagnostic device and control device is implemented via standardized interfaces, the transmission speed thereof being limited for reasons of cost and fault stability. By means of the configuration of the diagnostic function in the control device according to the invention, wherein not every operating data value is called individually by the diagnostic device but rather a series of operating data values are stored intermediately in a buffer memory in the control device, the speed of the data reception can be selected independently of the transmission speed of the interface between the control device and the diagnostic device and thus particularly also be higher. Data reception at 100 Hz is possible by the method according to the invention and a speed-synchronous data reception is attainable.
