    • A method and system (100) for measuring a surface tension of a liquid is provided. The method is carried out using an electrospraying apparatus (103) connected in the system (100). At a first step a voltage source (113) applies a voltage between a capillary (107) through which the liquid is drawn and an electrode (111) of the electrospraying apparatus (103). An ammeter (115) continuously measures current flowing in the system (100) and if no current or a current less than a predetermined threshold current is measured in the system (100), the strength of the electric field at the capillary (107) is increased. As soon as current is measured in the system (100), a reading of a parameter of the system (100) is taken, which is used to calculate the surface tension of the liquid.

    • A dephlegmator is provided comprising two stages connected in series wherein a first stage includes an air-cooled reflux condenser and a second stage includes a generally horizontal tube bundle of smooth or finned tubes that can be operated selectively in either an air-cooled (dry) mode under selected ambient conditions or in a wet evaporatively cooled mode under other selected ambient conditions including that of elevated ambient temperature. Spray nozzles may be installed above the tube bundle whereby water can be sprayed onto the tube bundle. One or more collection troughs are preferably provided beneath the tube bundle for collecting run-off water and enabling recycling of excess deluge water. Preferably, the tube bundle comprises at least two, and preferably three groups of tubes communicating with each other wherein the second group of tubes has appreciably fewer tubes in it than the first group of tubes and any third group of tubes has appreciably fewer tubes in it than the second group of tubes.

    • A wave energy convertor (1 ) is provided comprising an elongate construction (2), typically a breakwater or harbour wall, located in a body of water having wave action associated with it with the waves moving generally in a dominant wave direction (10) and having a generally constant wavelength. A plurality of equally spaced chambers (20) extends along the length of the construction internally thereof with each chamber extending generally upwardly and having at or near its lowermost end (28) an opening (24) into the body of water. Each chamber communicates through a unidirectional valve (40, 42) respectively with each of a high pressure conduit (44) and a low pressure conduit (46) with the high pressure conduit feeding into an inlet to a turbine (56) and the low pressure conduit communicating with an outlet from the turbine. The length of the construction is approximately equal to an integral number of said generally constant wavelengths in the dominant wave direction. The construction extends from a bed (4) of the body of water to above a high water level (8) with the opening of each chamber being located below a low water level (30) of the body of water.
