摘要： The invention provides a method for separating a polyphenolic compound such as resveratrol from biomass. The method comprises feeding the biomass into an aqueous two-phase system with a polymer phase and a salt phase and separating the polymer phase which includes the polyphenolic compound from the salt phase. The polymer may be a polyether. The salt may be a tartrate salt, a citrate salt, a carbonate salt, a phosphate salt or a sulphate salt. The biomass may be derived from grape vines, knotweeds, pine trees, peanut plants, cocoa bushes, Vaccinium shrubs; geraniums of the Pelargonium genus, or the herb Polygonum Cuspidatum , for example. The biomass may be derived from winery waste. The polymer phase may comprise 10% (w/w) polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 8000 g/mol. The salt phase may comprise 15% (w/w) tartrate salt. The invention extends to medicaments and dietary supplements which include the polyphenolic compound.

摘要： A method of culturing autogenous cells as well as a method of treating a mammalian patient is described. The cells are cultured on a substrate material having a surface treated with a fatty acid ester so as to have a strong hydrophobic surface and autogenous plasma obtained from a blood sample of the patient is used as a growth medium in order to culture the cells. The substrate material is also used as a transfer dressing for transferring the cultured cells to the patient and as a wound cover dressing. The invention also describes a kit as well as a system for culturing autogenous cells using the culture method.

摘要： A concentrating solar power collector plant is provided in which a pressurized solar power receiver with an associated gas turbine and a low-pressure solar power receiver are used together with a common thermal energy storage system. Exhaust from the gas turbine is connected to the thermal energy storage system to deliver residual heat to the thermal energy storage system in addition to that received from the low-pressure solar power receiver. The pressurized solar power receiver may be a separate unit from the low-pressure receiver and at least some heliostats are controlled to redirect reflected solar energy from one solar power receiver to the other. The pressurized solar power receiver may alternatively be combined with the low-pressure receiver in a single unit having a heat receiving part of a high-pressure receiver and a flow passage for heating air between an inlet and an outlet to form the low pressure receiver.

摘要： The invention provides a method of modifying soluble xylan which contains glucuronic acid and/or arabinose side chains so that it can be adsorbed onto other substrates. The method includes the steps of enzymatically modifying the xylan by selectively removing glucuronic acid and/or arabinose side chains from the xylan with α -D-glucuronidase and/or α -L-arabinofuranosidase, and allowing the modified xylan to adsorb onto the substrate. The substrate may be a cellulosic substrate like pulp or paper or a non-cellulosic substrate. The enzymes are able to remove a sufficient number of the xylan side chains so as to decrease water solubility of the xylan, induce xylan precipitation and allow adsorption of the xylan onto other substrates. A pulping process which incorporates modification of xylan and adsorption onto cellulosic material is also provided, as are products which contain the modified xylan.
