摘要： An information recording disc comprises a connecting region formed between a parallel program recorded region containing a plurality of parallel programs and a single program recorded region containing a single program which is to be reproduced after one of the parallel programs is reproduced. Each of the parallel program recorded region and the connecting region comprises track turns having vertical blanking parts recorded with vertical blanking periods of video signals, and at least one of the vertical blanking parts in each track turn is recorded with address signals each comprising a first code indicating whether a program recorded in a track turn of a region is a single program or another program, a second code indicating whether the region is the parallel program recorded region or the connecting region, a fourth code indicating the number of programs recorded in the region, and a fifth code indicating the program number of the program recorded in the region. A reproducing apparatus comprises a reproducing element for reproducing information signals from the disc, and the reproducing element is kicked within the vertical blanking part based on the value of the reproduced fourth code during a normal reproduction of a parallel program.

摘要： A disc drive designed to hold a cartridge containing an optical data storage disk is compatible with a memory card slot in a host digital electronics device such as a PDA, for example a slot designed for a Type I CompactFlash card. The disc drive contains a body assembly which is inserted into the memory card slot and which has a compatible connector at one end. The disc drive also includes a drive mechanism which contains the spindle motor and optics systems and which is located outside the memory card slot when the drive is in operation. The drive mechanism is lifted from the body assembly to form an opening to a tray into which a cartridge is loaded. The drive mechanism is then pressed against the body assembly to close the cartridge tray and to cause the spindle motor assembly to engage the optical disc within the cartridge. To minimize the extent to which the disc drive protrudes from the host device, part of the cartridge extends into the memory card slot when the disc drive is connected to the host.

摘要： An information storage apparatus comprises a one or more storage media (168), which include a plurality of information tracks. Each storage medium (168) has a head assembly (170) having a substantially planar surface and a plurality of read/write heads positioned in registry with said information tracks. The read/write heads are arranged substantially in the plane of the planar surface. The information storage medium (168) and the head assembly (170) are arranged in mutually sliding abutment such that the read/write heads are substantially in sliding contact with the outer surface of the information storage medium in use. In another aspect an information storage and retrieval apparatus comprises an information storage medium (168) comprising an information storage area, and an array (170) of information read and/or write heads. In a tracking compensation operation of the head, forces are exerted on the slider supporting member (32) through the elastic hinge portion by extending and contracting operations of the pair of thin-film piezoelectric elements so that the slider (50) is allowed to pivot around the protrusion (28) of the load beam serving as the center of pivotal movements, together with the slider supporting member (32).

A disc recording and/or reproducing apparatus, in which the disc cartridge (110) including these first and second discriminating sections (101, 102) is loaded, includes a detecting unit to detect one of the discriminating sections (101, 102) indicating reflectance of the optical disc (112) and sets an output level of a laser light irradiated on the optical disc (112) based on an output of the detecting unit.

The near-field optical recording and regenerating apparatus further radiates near-field light onto a portion of the recording medium to read the recorded information, and contains a control unit which activates the assistive heating unit when recording the information, and deactivates the assistive heating unit when reading the information.
