    • This invention concerns a two-stroke cycle engine, more specially it concerns a two-stroke cycle engine using a preceding air-layer for scavenging. It has a scavenger passage connected to a branching scavenger passage opened to said scavenging port. The engine has a connecting passage to link the air passage and the fuel passages so that negative pressure in the air passage forces the fuel-air mixture in the fuel passage into said air passage. Further, the engine according to this invention has a removable guide with a surface forming a curved smooth channel which is attachable to the scavenger passage in the crankcase from the mounting surface, and forms a portion of said scavenger passage with the curved channel. The blow-up angle of the scavenger passage varies along the circumferential direction of the cylinder. The crankcase is configured in such a way that the front and rear portions, which are separated by a block, and a scavenger passage is provided inside both said front and rear portions of said crankcase, and the cylinder. The air cleaner has two air passages running from it in parallel, the first one is connected to said air passage, and the second one is connected to the air inlet of the carburetor to provide air for the fuel passage, and a choke valve on the air cleaner is provided to open and close both of the first and second air passages.

    • The invention relates to an intake system (1) for the combustion air (2) of an internal combustion engine (3) in a portable handheld work apparatus (4). The intake system (19) includes a filter housing (5) having an air filter (6) for purifying the combustion air (2). The clean space (8) of the air filter (6) is fluidly connected to an outlet opening (10) of the filter housing (5). The outlet opening (10) communicates with a carburetor (7) of the engine (3). A centrifugal-force separator (13) is mounted forward of the air filter (6) for separating large amounts of dust in the inducted combustion air (2). The separator (13) is so positioned ahead of the filter housing (5) that a central core flow (14) of the separator has a lower particle density (15) and is supplied to the filter (6). A tangential flow (16) surrounds the central core flow (14) in the interior of the separator (13). The tangential flow (16) has a great amount of dust or dirt and is conducted away via the suction side (11) of a blower (12), especially of a cooling-air blower (19) of the engine (3) having vanes on the back side thereof.

    • A hand-held working tool has a housing and an internal combustion engine arranged in the housing and comprising a crankshaft and an air filter. A tool is driven by the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. A fan housing is attached to the engine housing and has an air inlet. The combustion air outlet is axially supplying combustion air from the chamber through the combustion air channel into the air filter of internal combustion engine. The fan housing has a channel wall having a bottom portion connected to the face of the bottom remote from the fan wheel and covering the bottom partially to form a double-walled bottom. The end face portion of the combustion air channel is defined by the bottom and the bottom portion of the channel wall. In an alternative embodiment the combustion air channel is provided in a hollow beam of a support that supports the drive unit of the working tool.
