    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a curable composition for forming protective coating film free from drawbacks including cracking, debonding and yellowing under long-term use and excellent in weatherability, and to provide a coated article using the composition. SOLUTION: The curable composition comprises (A) a vinyl polymer where hydrolyzable silyl groups and/or SiOH groups and organic ultraviolet-absorbing groups are bound to the side chains, (B) an organic ultraviolet light absorber 500 or higher in molecular weight and 95% or greater in mass residue percentage when kept at 150°C for 24 h under opened state, and (C) an organosilicon compound having in the molecule a nitrogen atom and an alkoxysilyl group. This curable composition, because being markedly improved in light resistance, prevented from the ultraviolet light absorber's being washed away and used as a weatherability-rich binder, gives ultraviolet-absorbing coating film of high water resistance, high solvent resistance and high light resistance. When a weatherability-poor article is coated/cured with this curable composition, the discoloration and/or deterioration of the article is prevented and the article can be imparted with good weatherability. When a weatherability-poor article is coated/cured with this curable composition, the discoloration and/or deterioration of the article is prevented and the article can be imparted with good weatherability. The joint 13 made of a metal is joined at a serration 16 to a joint linking part 15a at both the ends of the cylinder member 15. The outer diameter D3 of the serration 16 is formed to be smaller than the outer diameter D2 of the cylindrical core material 14, and to be larger than the inner diameter d1 of the cylindrical core material 14.       SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for middle thickened propeller shafts includes two processes; the first process in which a pair of tapered paper tubes 7 and 9 are coupled together in such a manner that their major diametric ends 7c and 9c are directed facing and the second process in which threads impregnated with resin are wound on the periphery of each core member to form a middle thickened fiber layer 5. In the first process, the major diametric ends are coupled together where a bulkhead 13 is interposed in between, and center alignment is established by inserting an aligning shaft 21 into the bulkhead and the tapered paper tubes.
