    • High speed access to an information recording medium is possible by preparing information relative to a lower level recording unit, e.g., a fragment, which is set smaller than a higher level recording unit, e.g., a session. A fragment identifier, typically, a fragment number is assigned to each fragment, sequentially and in ascending order. A fragment number (greatest fragment number) that is greater than any other fragment number in the session is recorded in the information recording medium for each session. When reproducing a desired fragment, a controller acquires the greatest fragment number of each session sequentially from the first session, and compares the greatest fragment number of the session with the fragment number of the desired fragment. When the greatest fragment number that is equal to or greater than the fragment number of the desired fragment is found, the desired fragment is searched for from the top of the session.

    • A camera comprising the following components is disclosed: a vibrating motor which drives a focus lens of an image-taking optical system, and a control circuit which controls the vibrating type motor to repeatedly drive and stop the focus lens, extracting higher frequency components from an image signal obtained from an image pickup device in each stopped state of the focus lens, and performing focus adjusting operation of moving the focus lens to an in-focus position in accordance with a focus adjustment state of the image-taking optical system determined on the basis of the higher frequency components. The control circuit causes traveling wave vibration to be generated on the vibrating member of the vibrating type motor when the focus lens is driven and causes standing wave vibration to be generated on the vibrating member while the focus lens is stopped during the focus adjusting operation.

    • There is disclosed a slide type exhaust brake system having: an exhaust brake body orthogonal to an exhaust passageway provided with a protrudent connecting wall to an air release pipe; and air cylinder leading to one end of the brake body; a tabular valve member incorporated into a reciprocatory operation passageway and fitted to a tip of a piston rod penetrating a partition wall with respect to the air cylinder unit; a block member engaging with the valve member; and an exhaust pressure adjusting hole communicating with an engagement port. When closing the exhaust passageway, the exhaust pressure adjusting hole is closed substantially by the tip of the piston, keeping a minute spacing with respect to a peripheral surface of the engagement port. The peripheral surface of the exhaust pressure adjusting hole undergoes a unidirectional thrust by the piston tip. When opening the exhaust passageway, the exhaust pressure adjusting hole is opened substantally by the piston tip. The block member moves the valve member in the other direct. Thus the braking functions smoothly and rapidly.
