    • The present invention relates to a procatalyst composition for the polymerization of alfa-olefines, which has been prepared in steps, in which is arranged a carrier agent based on at least one inorganic oxide, having few or no hydroxyl groups on its surface, and the carrier agent is reacted with the magnesium compound and one or more transition metal compounds of the groups IVB an VB of the periodic table. It has been observed that such a catalyst is most advantageous when a) this carrier agent is impregnated with a mixture of the Mg compound and one or more compounds of a transition metal of the groups IVb or Vb of the periodic table, which dissolves the Mg compound, and b) by chlorinating with a compound that does not contain titanium so that 1) the carrier is first treated with a mixture in the form of a solution of the Mg compound and the transition metal compound and the product thus obtained is chlorinated, or 2) the carrier is first chlorinated and subsequently treated with the above mixture in the form of a solution, or 3) the Mg compound and the transition metal compound are impregnated into the carrier without any separate dissolving and the product thus obtained is chlorinated.

    • A process for manufacturing fiber boards and similar wood-based products from a lignocellulosic raw material having a moisture content of at least 10 wt-%. According to the process, an aqueous fraction is separated from the fibers of the raw material, which fraction later is recycled to the process in order to form at least a part of the agent used for binding the fibers. Before mixing with the fibers, the aqueous effluent is concentrated and enzymatically oxidized in the presence of oxygen in order to polymerize the solubilized wood material and in order to increase its concentration. Lignin can be added to the water solubilized wood material or the solubilized wood material can be added to the fibers together with another binder. Eventually, the mixture is formed into a board and hardened.

    • In the preparation of alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) from an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon and a maleic anhydride, additives are used in the preparation reaction in order to improve the yield of the product and to reduce side reactions. According to the present invention, quinone and hydroquinone derivatives as well as dialkyl sulfoxides and transition-metal acetylacetonate have such properties. The amounts to be added are approx. 0.01-2 mol % of the amount of maleic anhydride. The olefin is preferably a straight-chain alpha -olefin or a straight-chain or branched internal olefin having a chain length of 6-20 carbon atoms. The olefin may also be a polyolefin, in which case the preferred molecular weight is 900-1500. The preparation process may be of the batch type or the semi-batch type, and the maleic anhydride and the additive may be added in several batches or as a continuous feed which may be even or variable. The ASA obtained by the process may be used in particular as an additive in foods, for hydroxy sizing of paper, or as a dispersing agent in lubricants.
