    • A method is proposed in which the injection pump, having been adjusted in terms of the supply quantity and of the supply onset, is provided on a test bench, before being mounted on the internal combustion engine, with an electric pulse transducer, whose mounted position is marked on the injection pump. The pump may also be corrected, at a fixed test rpm, to a set-point value fixed relative to the supply onset signal by means of measuring the signal distance between the supply onset signal of a signal transducer measuring the dynamic supply onset and the rotary-position signal of the pulse transducer. The injection pump, with the camshaft rotated into the rotary position associated with the dynamic supply onset, is mounted on the engine which has been brought with its crankshaft into the associated working position. For testing and if needed correcting the mounted position of the injection pump on the engine, only the signal distance between the rotary-position signal and a dead-center signal of a dead-center transducer secured on the engine is tested and corrected if needed to a fixed set-point value. This measurement can be performed with a conventionally available ignition angle testing device.

    • The fuel injection quantity of a fuel injection apparatus provided with a fuel injection pump is electrically regulated by means of the opening duration of a metering valve. Additionally, a shift in the instant of supply onset controlled in accordance with operating characteristics is attained by means of a change in the return-flow fuel quantity, which is diverted into a refill reservoir and then refilled completely into the pump work chamber by the beginning of the next subsequent injection stroke. Serving as the sole connection between the refill reservoir and a pump work chamber is an overflow conduit, which is opened by two control locations on the pump piston at the end of a supply and shortly prior to the bottom dead center. Both the pump cylinder with the pressure valve and the refill reservoir and the metering valve are inserted in a leak-fuel-proof manner in a cylinder head of the pump housing, which is embodied in two parts. The decreased idle volume, the reduction of possible leakage points, and the complete refilling of the return-flow fuel quantity assure that the fuel injection quantity is determined unequivocally by the opening duration of the metering valves.

    • An rpm governor for fuel injection engines whose function is to raise the idle rpm for a predetermined time period while the engine is cold in order to guarantee a clean idle running cycle of the engine. The rpm governor includes a compensating device having a thermostat which is designed to engage an idling spring and whose duration of engagement is determined by a heating device located on the thermostat. When the engine is cold, the tension in the spring is raised by the compensating device, thus effecting a higher rpm level, which rpm level is later reduced to normal idle when the governor has reached an operational temperature upon the passage of a predetermined period after cold starting.
