    • A method is proposed in which the injection pump, having been adjusted in terms of the supply quantity and of the supply onset, is provided on a test bench, before being mounted on the internal combustion engine, with an electric pulse transducer, whose mounted position is marked on the injection pump. The pump may also be corrected, at a fixed test rpm, to a set-point value fixed relative to the supply onset signal by means of measuring the signal distance between the supply onset signal of a signal transducer measuring the dynamic supply onset and the rotary-position signal of the pulse transducer. The injection pump, with the camshaft rotated into the rotary position associated with the dynamic supply onset, is mounted on the engine which has been brought with its crankshaft into the associated working position. For testing and if needed correcting the mounted position of the injection pump on the engine, only the signal distance between the rotary-position signal and a dead-center signal of a dead-center transducer secured on the engine is tested and corrected if needed to a fixed set-point value. This measurement can be performed with a conventionally available ignition angle testing device.

    • A centrifugal governor for fuel injected internal combustion engines is proposed, especially an idling and final rpm governor for Diesel vehicle engines, in which the sudden emission of smoke upon starting of a heavily loaded engine is prevented. The improved governor comprises an additional idling spring secured on a force transmitting lever which is acted upon by the main control spring and by means of which additional idling spring in the idling setting of the service lever the restoring force of the idling spring on a portion (b) of the idling sleeve path (a) is amplified. This force of the additional idling spring is, however, made at least partially ineffective by a thrust member when the service lever is pivoted into the full-load position. Further, there is disclosed a governor which is equipped with an additional idling spring which comprises two additional springs, the aforementioned thrust member being arranged to act only upon the second additional spring, while the first additional spring remains coupled with the governor sleeve via a connecting member in order to improve starting.

    • A centrifugal rpm governor is proposed for fuel injected internal combustion engines in which the full-load supply quantity is precisely settable at a fixed and invariable full-load setting and a predetermined constant pivot angle of the setting member actuated by the service lever. The governor includes an intermediate lever that is coupled with the supply quantity adjustment member of the injection pump, which intermediate lever is engaged both by a control member that is moved by flyweights in accordance with rpm and a setting member pivotable for the purpose of arbitrarily varying the supply quantity. The setting member and the control member both are articulated on the intermediate lever via a shift lever connecting both members, and the intermediate lever is provided with a pivotal bearing adjustable in the governor housing solely for the purpose of accomplishing the basic setting of the full-load supply quantity. The pivotal bearing serves simultaneously as a deflection member in order to prevent an overload of the control rod during an undergoverning situation.

    • Pump piston seizures caused by excessive side loads produced by the uneven loading of a large piston return spring are prevented by separating the tappet return function from the piston return function, thereby minimizing the spring force acting on the piston. Separate and distinct biasing means perform the respective functions. Preferably, a stronger, heavier load outer spring is mounted between the pump body and the tappet, such that it imparts no load and therefore no side loads to the pumping piston. A weaker, lighter load inner spring imparts less side load to the pumping piston than a conventional piston return spring, because the inner spring need not carry any tappet load. During both the pumping and charging strokes of the piston, the piston return spring can assist the tappet return spring, but the tappet return spring does not assist the piston return spring.
