    • A sensitizer contains a xanthene dye structure and has a structure such that at least one hydrophilic group and at least one lipophilic group are bound to one and the same carbon atom within the molecule. Independent claims are included for the following: (a) an ultrasonic treatment system comprising: (i) an ultrasonic imaging probe for irradiating a target for treatment in vivo with ultrasound for imaging to obtain a diagnostic ultrasonic image of the target for treatment; (ii) an ultrasonic therapeutic transducer for irradiating the target for treatment with ultrasound; (iii) a controller for adjusting the intensity and/or focus of the ultrasound for treatment based on the diagnostic ultrasonic image; (iv) an ultrasonic transducer for generating bubbles which generate ultrasound for irradiating the target for treatment with administered sensitizer; and (v) a display device for displaying the diagnostic ultrasonic image obtained by the ultrasonic imaging probe and contrasted by the bubbles. The generated bubbles are stabilized by the sensitizer by irradiation with the ultrasound. The target for treatment is irradiated with ultrasound for treatment after the diagnostic ultrasonic image as contrasted by the bubbles is displayed on the display device; (b) a method of ultrasonic therapy involving: the steps of irradiating the target for the treatment in vivo with the ultrasound for imaging as generated from the probe to obtain the diagnostic ultrasonic image of the target for treatment; adjusting the intensity and/or focus of the ultrasound for treatment as generated from the transducer based on the diagnostic ultrasonic image; irradiating the target for treatment with the administered sensitizer; displaying the diagnostic ultrasonic image obtained by the probe and contrasted by the bubbles; and irradiating the target for treatment with ultrasound; and (c) a compound of formula (I). X and Y = halogen or H; Z = alkali metal atom or H; R1 = lipophilic group comprising 3-30C straight alkyl or straight chain alkyl, side-chain-containing alkyl, functional groups derived from a straight chain or side-chain-containing alkyl group by substituting a double bond or a triple bond for part of its single bonds, functional group derived from a straight chain or side-chain-containing alkyl group by binding an aromatic ring to it or functional group derived from a straight chain or side-chain-containing alkyl group by introducing an ether linkage, ester linkage, amido or sulfur into its part; R2 = hydrophilic group comprising at least one of carboxy group, sulfonic acid, a sulfuric acid ester group, hydroxy groups, amine group, quaternary ammonium group, phosphoric acid group or their soluble salts; and R3 = R1, R2 or H.

    • This invention is directed to accomplish an ultrasonic remedial apparatus for generating a living body action such as cavitation suitable for remedy of a malignant tumor, a thrombus and a calculus, an ultrasonic wave diagnostic apparatus for generating cavitation to enhance an ultrasonic echo image of a blood stream, etc., and utilizing its reflection capacity, an ultrasonic chemical reaction promotion apparatus, an ultrasonic washing apparatus, an ultrasonic sterilizer, etc., by providing an ultrasonic irradiation apparatus for efficiently generating acoustic cavitation. Irradiation focus code signals for defining focal positions and sound pressure distribution shapes of irradiation sound fields of a fundamental frequency waves and harmonics are applied from a main control circuit to driving phase generation circuits, respectively. The driving phases thus generated are applied to driving signal generation circuits and the resulting driving signals are applied to device driving circuits, respectively, so that a group of the fundamental frequency devices and a group of harmonic devices are driven, respectively. The driving phases are controlled so that the fundamental frequency wave and the harmonic waves are superposed with one another in a medium near the focus, and acoustic cavitation is generated locally and efficiently.
