    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate which maintains transmittance by preventing a polarizer support body from being dyed and offers improved adhesion between the support body and the polarizer even when the thickness of the polarizer is reduced.SOLUTION: A polarizing plate includes a stretched laminate which is obtained by stretch-treating a laminate comprising a base material layer and a hydrophilic polymer layer laminated together, where the hydrophilic polymer layer has at least a dichroic substance absorbed therein. The base material layer has a primary layer on each side thereof, and the base material layer and the hydrophilic polymer layer are laminated together with the primary layer in between. The hydrophilic polymer layer of the stretched laminate has a thickness of 2-10 μm, while the base material layer has a thickness of 5-100 μm and a moisture permeability of no more than 120 g/m/24h. The hydrophilic polymer layer of the stretched laminate functions as a polarizer and the base material layer of the stretched laminate is used as a transparent protective film.

In the film, the total film thickness of the surface layer is 0.2 to 10 μm; the polymer as the main component of the core layer is a cycloolefin resin or a styrene-acryl copolymer; and the polymer as the main component of the core layer shows a solution viscosity of 10 Pa s to 100 Pa s when the polymer is dissolved in a dichloromethane/methanol mixture solvent (in a mass ratio of 95/5) to obtain a concentration of 18 mass%.
