摘要： A magnetic write head for perpendicular magnetic data recording. The write head includes a substrate and a magnetic write pole formed on the substrate, the write pole having a trailing edge and first and second sides. A magnetic stitched pole is formed over a portion of the magnetic write pole, the stitched pole having a front edge that defines a secondary flare point. First and second non-magnetic side walls are formed at the first and second sides of the write pole. The non-magnetic side walls extend from the substrate at least to the trailing edge of the write pole in a first region near an air bearing surface and wherein the first and second non-magnetic side walls extend from the substrate to a point between the substrate and the trailing edge, allowing the stitched magnetic pole to extend partially over the sides of the write pole.

The write coil is formed as a helical coil having upper and lower leads that are connected by electrically conductive studs formed therebetween. 摘要： A method for manufacturing a magnetic write head that allows the location of the flare point of a write pole to be accurately located relative to the air bearing surface. The method includes the construction of a lapping guide having an edge feature that is easily and accurately located relative to the flare point of the write pole. This edge feature provides an abrupt change in electrical resistance across the lapping guide at a point when lapping should be terminated. And, since this feature can accurately located relative to the flare point, this provides an easily discernable ending point for lapping.

At a late stage in the manufacture of the read and write head, a determination can be made as to which contact pad is to be a ground pad, and that pad can be electrically connected with the ground path.

摘要： A magnetic write pole having a structure that prevents thermally induced pole tip protrusion. The write head has a return pole with a magnetic pedestal formed at the air bearing surface (ABS) and a back gap at an end opposite the ABS. An electrically conductive write coil having a plurality of turns passes over the return pole. A fill layer of a material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, such as alumina is disposed between the coil and the pedestal, and may extend over the top of the coil to the back gap. A photoresist coil insulation layer may be provided between the turns of the coil to insulate the turns of the coil from one another. The photoresist coil insulation layer can also extend to the back gap. A write pole, formed above the return pole and coil is magnetically connected with the back gap layer and return pole by a magnetic shaping layer.
