    • 475,030. Liquid-meters. BARRETT, J. B. Feb. 8, 1937, No. 9444/36. [Class 69 (ii)] In a liquid-meter of the kind comprising a chamber or chambers with a displaceable wall operatively connected with indicating means and with valve mechanism for alternatively placing the chamber in communication with the supply pipe the wall or walls is or are formed of metal and constructed with concentric corrugations. The metal chambers 2, 2a are formed in pairs connected by pipe 4 and having an upper wall fixed to the outer casing 1 whilst the lower wall is attached to a rod 5 slidable in a guide 6. The walls of these chambers are formed with discs with concentric corrugations. The valve for controlling alternatively the admission of the liquid by the pipes 3, 3a to these chambers is an oscillating one in a chest 21. The mechanism for moving this valve comprises links 7 attached to the wall of each chamber and passing to a pivoted lever 8 upon which is mounted disc 11 having connecting arms 12 with a cam disc 14 freely mounted on the valve shaft 15. The other face of the disc 11 is connected by telescopic spring links 13 with a disc 19 secured to the shaft 15 which inside the valve casing 21 has an arm engaging a slot in a double piston valve whereby it is oscillated. The disc 19 has notches 29 for coaction with detents 30 on arms which are movable by the cam disc 14 through spring- pressed push rods 32 and arms 31. Initial. movement of the disc 14 produces elongation of one of the spring rods until the detent is released whereupon the disc 19 is moved rapidly over and the valve is moved from one end position to the other without intermediate dwell. Movement of the shaft 15 may be used to operate an indicator direct. Pressure in the measuring chambers may be used to actuate the indicator. For this purpose pipes 42, 42a are led from the supply pipes to a pair of bellows 35, 35a, the inner ends of which are connected by a rod 36 having collars 36a with which engage a lever 38 on a shaft 39 which is geared through a ratchet mechanism with a spindle 41 that extends through the casing 1 and is coupled to an indicator pointer. In a modification, one pair of chambers only is used, the space between them and the outer casing forming the other measuring chamber. Instead of the double rocking lever 8, a single lever on a shaft corresponding to the shaft 9 is rocked by engagement with collars on a rod corresponding to the guide rod 5.
