摘要： A magnetic recording and reproduction method includes the steps of recording a plurality of tracks which make a unit for a signal process for data detection by means of a recording head on a magnetic recording medium, and reproducing signals of the plural tracks by a plural number of times in different positional relationships to the tracks by means of a reproduction head which can reproduce a signal across the plural tracks of the magnetic recording medium, collecting the reproduction signals in the unit and performing a signal process for the unit to produce reproduction signals for the individual tracks.

摘要： A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus is disclosed wherein reproduced signals read out from a plurality of recording tracks using a reproducing head can be separated into original recording signals of the recording tracks. Upon recording, an identification signal which has a recording wavelength equal to or greater than a minimum recording wavelength and causes no interference of any of the recording tracks with any adjacent one of the recording tracks is appended to and recorded together with a recording signal in order to allow, upon reproduction, acquisition of the position information of the reproducing head with respect to the plural recording tracks of the magnetic recording medium. Upon reproduction, a reproduced signal for each of the recording tracks of the magnetic recording medium is generated on the basis of the positional information read from the recording tracks.

摘要： Disclosed is a reproduction apparatus that reproduces signals of a plurality of channels including: a soft-decision portion that performs a soft decision on each bit of a block encoded with an LDPC code for each channel, as a bit string corresponding to a length of the LDPC code; a holding portion that holds a soft-decision result on the block basis for each channel; a decoding portion that inputs the soft-decision result on the block basis and obtains an estimated bit string by an iterative decoding; and a control portion that determines a priority order among channels for each of which a next block is subjected to the iterative decoding, based on an iteration count at an end of the iterative decoding for each channel, and controls the input of the soft-decision result so that the iterative decoding is performed for each channel in accordance with the priority order.

摘要： A magnetic recording and playback apparatus that is configured to carry out recoding on and playback of a tape-like recording medium using a magnetic head mounted on a rotating drum by employing helical scanning is provided. The apparatus includes a multi recording head configured to record a plurality of tracks while a head chip carries out one scanning operation and a multi playback head configured to obtain a plurality of playback signals while the head chip carries out one scanning operation. The multi playback head is disposed so that tracks overlap by one channel in the head-width direction. The tape transporting speed for playback is slower than the tape transporting speed for recording.
