The system (10) includes an electronic control unit (ECU) (34). The ECU (34) is further configured to calculate an index responsive to the at least one value of the at least one complex impedance component. The index is indicative of a likelihood of barotrauma occurring in the tissue (12).

The electrode (12) may have a main body (14) of electrically conductive material extending along an axis (16) and having a proximal end (20) and a distal end (18). The body (14) may be configured to emit electrical energy in accordance with a predefined diagnostic or therapeutic function. The body (14) may have a groove disposed over an outermost surface of the body. The electrode may also include a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tracking coil (32, 34) disposed in said groove. The MRI tracking coil (32, 34) may comprise electrically insulated wire, for example. A catheter including an electrode (12), as well as a method for determining the location of an electrode (12), are also disclosed.

摘要： Embodiments of the present invention provide an irrigated ablation electrode assembly (10) for use with an irrigated catheter device comprises at least one passageway (24) for a fluid with an outlet (22) disposed at an external surface of the electrode assembly (10); a permanent magnet (48); a shield separating the permanent magnet from the at least one passageway and from an exterior, the shield being substantially less oxidizable than the permanent magnet 48); and an electrode having an external electrode surface. A catheter guidance control and imaging system drives the permanent magnet to guide and control the catheter tip. In specific embodiments, the irrigation fluid flow paths through the electrode assembly are thermally insulated from the electrode and temperature sensor. The irrigation fluid is directed at target areas where coagulation is more likely to occur. One or more monitoring electrodes are provided for mapping or other monitoring functions.

摘要： The present invention relates to improved ablation electrodes (10, 10') and catheter assemblies (12), as well as methods useful in conjunction with irrigated ablation catheters. An irrigated ablation electrode assembly (10, 10') includes a proximal member (18, 18') having an outer surface (22), an inner lumen (26, 26') and a proximal passageway (24). The proximal passageway (24) extends from the inner lumen (26, 26') to the outer surface (22) of the proximal member (18, 18'). The assembly (10, 10') further includes a distal member (20) having a distal end (30) and a distal passageway (28) extending from the inner lumen (26, 26') through the distal member (20) to the distal end (30). Embodiments of the present invention include an irrigated catheter assembly (12) configured to direct irrigation fluid to target areas where coagulation is more likely to occur to, among other things, better minimize blood coagulation and associated problems.

摘要： A catheter for anchoring an electrode in a coronary sinus includes an elongate catheter body adapted to be inserted into a coronary sinus and at least one electrode on the catheter body. The elongate catheter body also includes at least one anchor movable between an undeployed configuration and a deployed configuration. When the anchor is in the undeployed configuration, the catheter may be introduced into and removed from the coronary sinus. When the anchor is in the deployed configuration, the anchor engages a tissue surface of the coronary sinus to inhibit movement between the catheter body and the coronary sinus, preferably without completely occluding the coronary sinus. The anchor may be a section of the catheter body having an expandable axial cross-section, an expandable member mounted on the catheter body, one or more wire anchors, or a flexible section of the catheter body.

摘要： Systems and methods are disclosed for assessing electrode-tissue contact for tissue ablation. An exemplary electrode contact sensing system comprises an electrode 10 housed within a distal portion of a catheter shaft 14. At least one electro-mechanical sensor 20 is operatively associated with the electrode 10 within the catheter shaft 14. The at least one electro-mechanical sensor 20 is responsive to movement of the electrode 10 by generating electrical signals corresponding to the amount of movement. The system may also include an output device electrically connected to the at least one electro-mechanical sensor 20. The output device receives the electrical signals for assessing a level of contact between the electrode 10 and a tissue 12.

摘要： Irrigated ablation catheter assemblies and methods of facilitating parallel irrigation fluid flow along irrigated assemblies (12) includes a catheter, an irrigated ablation electrode assembly (10), a flow member, and a catheter shaft (14) having a fluid lumen (19). The electrode assembly includes at least one irrigation passageway and a distal portion. The proximal portion can include a proximal member (18) and the distal portion can include a distal member (20) which is connected to the proximal member (18). The proximal end of the flow member (40) couples to the catheter shaft and the distal end of the flow member is disposed about the proximal portion of the assembly (10). Fluid flow is guided at least in part by the member (40) and traverses the outer surface of the proximal portion along the outer surface of the distal portion (20) substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the electrode assembly.
