    • An active magnetic bearing comprises a bearing housing, a bearing stator, a bearing armature, a position sensor, a jacket and a stress buffering member. The bearing stator is accommodated in the bearing housing and supports the rotation of a rotor using a magnetic force. The bearing armature is fixed on the rotor, while keeping a certain distance from the bearing stator. The position sensor is installed at the bearing housing to detect the position of the rotor. The jacket is sandwiched between the bearing stator and the bearing armature to seal hermetically any space between the bearing stator and the bearing housing. The stress buffering member is connected between the jacket and the bearing housing to buffer the stress that is generated due to the differences in coefficients of thermal expansion and in temperatures between the bearing housing and the jacket.
