    • In order to accurately measure a low current bias in an automatic kine bias (AKB) circuit during several video lines that immediately follow vertical retrace, dynamic focus is interrupted by deactivating a dynamic focus voltage amplifier. The amplifier draws its power from a horizontal flyback transformer. In order to avoid a horizontal transient which may occur when the dynamic focus voltage amplifier is reactivated after being deactivated during a vertical blanking interval, the dynamic focus amplifier draws a current during vertical blanking which approximates the average current drawn during vertical scan.

    • The display device has a cathode ray tube (T), which has an electron gun (G) for generating an electron beam and an outer conductive layer (AD). However, it has been found that, if a fixed value is assumed for the exponent gamma or for the ratio of the two cathode currents (IK1 and IK2), it is not possible to achieve an optimum result for displaying monochrome pictures. Thus, according to the invention, the exponent gamma is defined as a function of the colour tube (1). The aim in this case is to reduce a gamma -dependent DC voltage offset (u0f) to zero.

    • A video control circuit for use in a projection television system utilizes combined automatic kinescope bias (AKB) control, and average individual beam current sensing and limiting in respective cathode ray tubes (CRTR, CRTG, CRTB). The control circuit includes a video processor (V1) and a feedback circuit (F). The feedback circuit (F) feeds back proportions of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) cathode currents driving the corresponding cathode ray tubes (CRTR, CRTG, CRTB) to the video processor (V1). Based on the proportions fed back, the video processor (V1) applies automatic kinescope bias control by adjusting black levels of the respective cathode currents (R, G, B). The feedback circuit (F) includes at least one average beam current sensing circuit (A) for sensing the proportion of one of the cathode currents (R, G, B). In case the proportion of one of the cathode currents (R,G,B) exceeds a predetermined value the feedback circuit (F) feeds back a beam limiting signal (VABL) to the video processor (V1) for introducing a gain reduction in video gain stages to limit the red (R), green (G) and blue (B) cathode currents.
