    • A guided cutting system including first and second blade cartridges (10, 10') which are used in association with templates (12). The blade cartridges (10, 10') each include a head portion (14) and cover portion (16) wherein the head portion (14) includes a cutting blade (32) and a pair of guide pegs (24) which are adapted to be received within a peripheral groove (84) formed on a template (12). A flat, generally rectangular carrier comprises a bottom surface adapted to slide along the floor and a top surface, or deck, over which the carpet is directed during cutting. A blade holder, rigidly connected to the rear portion of the deck, presents the vertical leading edge of a thin, flat blade substantially orthogonal to the plane of the web. Sufficient clearance is provided in the blade holder slot to allow the blade to reciprocate up and down, producing a relative sawing motion between the blade and the carpet during cutting. The primary and secondary backing of carpeting are thereby cut with relative ease without severing the pile.
