In one aspect, a pipe machining apparatus (20) includes a frame (28), a tool carrier (32), a first roller bearing (72A) and a second roller bearing (72B). The tool carrier (32) is coupled to and movable relative to the frame (28) and defines a race (76) therein. The first roller bearing includes a first shaft and a first roller rotatably coupled to the first shaft. The first roller is at least partially positioned in the race and is rotatable about a first roller bearing axis adapted to remain substantially fixed relative to the frame. The second roller bearing includes a second shaft and a second roller rotatably coupled to the second shaft. The second roller is at least partially positioned in the race and is rotatable about a second roller bearing axis. The second roller bearing is adjustable to move the second roller bearing axis relative to the frame.

    • A portable cutting-guidance apparatus is used with a portable, hand-holdable power saw (20) to make an angle-cut in an object at a variably selected angle. A positioning device (300) is positioned motionless against the object being cut. The saw (20) travels on and along a cutting-guide (100) in a straight line. The linear cutting-guide (100) is pivotally connected to the positioning device (300) about a pivot point (400). The linear cutting guide (100) can be adjustably fastened to the positioning means (300) at a variably selected angle. The positioning device (300) can be positioned and held against the object purely by the manual force of the user, which includes force with which the user pushes the power saw forwards along the cutting-guide to cut the object. The pivot point (400) is located a distance (y) away from the leading edge of the linear cutting-guide (100) to provide improved performance.

    • Pipe machining apparatuses are provided. In one aspect, a pipe machining apparatus includes a coupling mechanism adapted to couple a first section and a second section of the pipe machining apparatus together. The coupling mechanism includes a base defining an aperture therein, an arm adapted to selectively couple the first and second sections together, an engagement member positioned in the aperture in the base, and a separation member movably coupled to the base and adapted to engage the engagement member. The separation member is adapted to move to push against the engagement member and separate the first section and the second section. In another aspect, a coupling mechanism includes an arm adapted to selectively couple the first and second sections together and a resistance member engaging the arm and one of a first section and a second section of the pipe machining apparatus to which the arm is coupled.

One such pipe machining apparatus may cut or bevel a hollow vessel while traveling around the vessel, and include a frame including a top end and a bottom end with the bottom end adjacent an outer surface of the vessel. The apparatus also includes a cable wrapped around the vessel and a pair of rollers coupled to the frame with each roller defining a groove therein for receiving the cable. Each roller rotates about an axis that extends generally parallel to a central longitudinal axis of the vessel. The cable is positioned in each groove of the pair of rollers and each axis is positioned between the cable and the outer surface of the vessel. The cable is tensioned to provide a force on the frame in a direction toward the outer surface of the vessel.
