    • In addition to a strip pull-off mechanism (15) cooperating with a one-way means (20, 22) to pull-off the desired strip length from the supply roll (10), the apparatus has a gripper (26) reciprocating in synchronism and in push-pull connection with the pull-off mechanism, said gripper gripping and advancing the strip end. The strip (11) also passes a strip brake (20, 21) and a photocell (19) which on detection of a suitable mark causes the brake to be actuated to stop the strip and the gripper to be actuated so that it releases the strip. As the moving parts have a very small inertia, the braking may be effected almost instantaneously and with great precision.

    • A semi-automatic linerless label dispenser (19) dispenses labels (15) from a support for a supply of continuous form linerless labels, each label having a pressure sensitive adhesive face (12) and an adhesive-release material face (1). First and second grooved drive rolls (20, 21) engage the labels and first and second sets of stripper and guiding fingers (22, 23) disposed in the drive rolls guide the labels. An automatic cutter (29) includes pivotally movable (31) and stationary blades (30), and a silicone-impregnated felt wiper (33). A housing (35, 36) contains the components and includes an exit opening (38) with spring fingers (41) for biasing a label adhesive face into contact with the adhesive-release material coated wall (40) as a label is being cut by the cutter mechanism, and holding the label after cutting until positively removed from the housing. Semi-automatic operation is provided by utilizing various electric drives and sensors including label position, cutter movement, and label take away sensors.
