摘要： There is disclosed a steering wheel having a gripping portion comprising an armature substantially encapsulated by a cover, and an outer skin provided over the cover. The outer skin comprises a layer of fabric material defining first and second opposed surfaces, said first surface of the fabric material having a polymeric coating. The steering wheel is characterised in that said first surface is attached to the outermost surface of said cover, and said second surface defines a peripheral surface of said gripping portion. Preferably, said second surface of the fabric layer is substantially uncoated. In preferred arrangements, second surface of the fabric layer has a surface relief pattern substantially defined by the weave of the fabric and thus defines a peripheral surface pattern. Figure 7.

摘要： An accessory for a vehicle, such as a steering wheel cover, with at least one decorative design appliqué affixed to a covering material by a heat transfer method, such as ultrasonic welding. The accessory may be made by molding at least one design appliqué of a thermoplastic material of at least one first pre-selected color. The mold and thermoplastic material are baked in an oven to set or cure the thermoplastic material, removed from the oven, and pressed onto a covering material for the accessory. With the mold surrounding the design appliqué, it is affixed onto the covering material by a heat transfer method, such as ultrasonic welding, and the mold is removed. Alternatively, the accessory may be provided with at least one design appliqué initially applied to the covering material in a rough, unfinished, generally planar shape, and then shaped and cut to its final form when it is affixed to the covering material by the heat transfer method. Such an at least one design appliqué may be initially applied to the covering material in a plurality of rough, unfinished, generally planar shaped, stacked layers.

摘要： A decorative strip (10) for automotive bodies, and more particularly, for steering wheel rings, is formed of a thin vinyl substrate (12) with an adhesive coating (14) on one surface and a decorative design on the other. The surface with the decorative design is covered with a coat made of a clear resin. The strip has a generally arcuate shape so that it fits easily on the steering wheel ring thereby improving its esthetic look. Moreover the strip is elastic so that it can be bent as at is applied to the steering wheel thereby conforming naturally to its radius of curvature and forming a smooth and continuous cover without any ridges or other irregularities. In some instances the strip is formed of several parallel sections to allow the strip to adjust better to the curvature of the wheel ring.
