    • The present invention provides an apparatus (10) and method for processing lined caps. The apparatus (10) includes a plurality of rotary turntables (30) having recesses (40) which receive the bottle caps, for sequentially cooling, inspecting, and removing the bottle caps. The first turntable receives the lined caps from the molding machine (14) supported on a machine table (12) at a first position (I), and advances the lined caps to a second position (II) through an enclosure (16) with cooling air. The second turntable includes inspection stations (58) and a vacuum inspection apparatus (18), a first disk (80) having an upper surface (81) and recesses (86). Properly formed caps are removed using a removal device (20) and advancing the caps to the third position (III).

    • A method for forming a vehicle headliner (112) comprises providing at least one layer of formable material (114) and a cover member (116); heating the layer (114) and the cover member (116); providing a mold (110, 210) having a pair of mold halves (120, 122) and a compressible seal (130) disposed between the mold halves (120, 122), at least one of the mold halves (122) having an aperture (133) and a channel (134) in communication with the aperture (133); positioning the layer (114) and the cover (116) member between the mold halves (120, 122); bringing the mold halves (120, 122) toward each other to effect a sealed relationship; and applying a vacuum pressure to the aperture (133) to sufficiently draw the mold halves (120, 122) together and compress the seal (130), thereby compressing the at least one layer (114) and the cover member (116) together to form the headliner (112). An apparatus for practicing the method is also disclosed.

    • The present invention includes processes and resulting structures for producing moisture absorbing desiccant entrained polymers. A polymer is caused to assume a molten state, typically by applying heat and melting the polymer. To achieve certain results in the hardened end product, such as rigidity and durability, the polymer normally acts as a moisture barrier in a solidified state, both before and after melting. A desiccating agent is blended into the polymer so that the desiccating agent is distributed within the polymer. A channeling agent is also blended into the polymer so that it is distributed within the polymer. The blending of the components is preferably done before the polymer is caused to assume a molten state. Together, the polymer, desiccating agent and channeling agent create a blended mixture. The mixture is solidified so that the channeling agent forms passages in the mixture through which moisture is communicable to desiccating agent that is entrained within the mixture. The solidified mixture may be used to form plug type inserts and liners for closed containers, or it may be used for producing laminated sheeting employed as package wrap.

    • A method and apparatus for manufacturing an injection-molded article having an outer film (28) on an exposed surface. The method includes securing the film about its periphery within a mold cavity prior to injection of molten material into the cavity. One way of securing the film (28) is by applying vacuum pressure through peripheral holes (24) in a frame (20) surrounding the mold cavity (16). Molten material is injected into the cavity, behing the film (28) and the film slips from its initial position to be forced against a wall (32) of the cavity by molten material (33) being injected into the cavity. The apparatus includes a frame (20) for a molding apparatus, adapted to initially secured the film (28) in place prior to movement of the core block (14) into place and to permit the film (28) to slip from its initial position to be forced against the cavity wall (32) as molten material fills the cavity.
