    • Various embodiments include systems and methods for managing radio utilization by a processor of a wireless access point. In response to receiving an access request from a wireless station, the processor may determine whether a multi-user (MU) physical layer quality of a communication link between a radio of the access point and the wireless station exceeds a quality threshold. The processor may determine whether a load of the radio of the access point is below a load threshold in response to determining that the MU physical layer quality of the communication link exceeds the quality threshold. The processor may associate the wireless station with the radio of the access point in response to determining that the load of the radio of the access point is below the load threshold. The processor may monitor established communication links to determine whether a change in association of radios with wireless stations is appropriate.

    • Methods, apparatus and user equipment are provided for scheduling communication resources to multiple user equipment (UEs) for use in uplink data transmission to a base station of a telecommunications network using unlicensed radio spectrum. The base station serves the multiple UEs and determines and schedules one or more sets of communication resources from unlicensed radio spectrum for each of the UEs. The base station receives, from each of the UEs, a request for a number of communication resources required by said each UE for transmitting uplink data. The base station determines one or more sets of communication resources for each of the UEs and allocates, for each UE, a set of communication resources from the determined set of communication resources, where the set of communication resources includes a minimum number of communication resources required for transmitting the uplink data based on the load of each of the communication resources, service type and/or capabilities of the UE. The set of communication resources use unlicensed spectrum and may comprise communication resources of a shared type which may be shared with at least another of the UEs served by the base station.

    • One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for automatically forming a wireless sensor network, implementing power management for the wireless sensor network, and/or self-healing within the wireless sensor network. For example, hub devices, configured to forward messages through the wireless sensor network to a gateway device having access to a network, may automatically join and configure into the wireless sensor network by locating and connecting to master devices using signal frequencies representing numbers of hops to the gateway device. A hub device may be configured to transition between a low power sleep state for power conservation and an awakened normal operational state for transmitting timing signals according to a duty cycle, and thus the hub device may be capable of operating from a battery. If a hub device determines that a master device has become inoperable, the hub device may automatically search for a new master device.

    • Technology for a user equipment (UE) operable to perform carrier measurements in a wireless network is disclosed. The UE can receive, from a network element, one or more switching parameters that indicate possible switching occasions for the UE. The UE can be configured to switch a radio frequency (RF) to another carrier frequency during the possible switching occasions in order to start performing carrier measurements or stop performing carrier measurements. The can send, to the network element, a switching notification that indicates an upcoming switching occasion that is selected by the UE. The switching notification can be sent in conjunction with a measurement value that indicates one or more of: selected carriers for which the UE is to start performing carrier measurements after an occurrence of the switching occasion or selected carriers for which the UE is to stop performing carrier measurements after the occurrence of the switching occasion.
