    • A method for acoustic scene playback comprises: providing recording data comprising microphone signals of one or more microphone setups positioned within an acoustic scene and microphone metadata of the one or more microphone setups, wherein each of the one or more microphone setups comprises one or more microphones and has a recording spot which is a center position of the respective microphone setup; specifying a virtual listening position, wherein the virtual listening position is a position within the acoustic scene; assigning each microphone setup of the one or more microphone setups one or more Virtual Loudspeaker Objects, VLOs, wherein each VLO is an abstract sound output object within a virtual free field; generating an encoded data stream based on the recording data, the virtual listening position and VLO parameters of the VLOs assigned to the one or more microphone setups; and decoding the encoded data stream based on a playback setup, thereby generating a decoded data stream; and feeding the decoded data stream to a rendering device, thereby driving the rendering device to reproduce sound of the acoustic scene at the virtual listening position. A playback apparatus and a computer program for performing the method for acoustic scene playback are also described.

    • An audio system includes a plurality of near-field speakers arranged in a listening area. A plurality of cross-talk cancellation filters are coupled to the speakers. The speakers and the filters are arranged to provide first and second listening zones in the listening area such that audio from the first listening zone is cancelled in the second listening zone and vice versa. Volume-based equalization circuitry receives an audio signal representing audio content for the first listening zone from an audio source and controls a volume adjustment applied to the audio signal to control a volume of audio in the first listening zone. The circuitry limits attenuation or amplification of a first frequency portion of the audio signal when a volume setting differential corresponding to a difference between volume settings for the first and second zones exceeds a predetermined value.

    • A system and method is described for determining whether a loudspeaker device has relocated, tilted, rotated, or changed environment such that one or more parameters for driving the loudspeaker may be modified and/or a complete reconfiguration of the loudspeaker system may be performed. In one embodiment, the system may include a set of sensors. The sensors provide readings that are analyzed to determine 1) whether the loudspeaker has moved since a previous analysis and/or 2) a distance of movement and/or a degree change in orientation of the loudspeaker since the previous analysis. Upon determining the level of movement is below a threshold value, the system adjusts previous parameters used to drive one or more of the loudspeakers. By adjusting previous parameters instead of performing a complete recalibration, the system provides a more efficient technique for ensuring that the loudspeakers continue to produce accurate sound for the listener.

    • A method to enable one or more active sound zones in a closed environment and in which individual sound sources are provided to individual persons located within each sound zone. The sound zones are created as 3D domains defined according to the aspects of "acoustically bright zone" and "acoustically dark zone", and with predefined threshold values related to a required "acoustical contrast" among the plurality of sound zones. Characteristics of the closed environment, this being e.g. a room or a car cabin, are analyzed and predefined via in situ measurement of the actual room/car cabin. A constraint based system controls the configuring of the individual sound zones according to relevant constraint parameters e.g., but not limited to: loudspeaker transducer configuration, number of sound channels, number and location of persons in the domain, room characteristics, (size, isolation, reflection, temperature), type of source material (speech, music genre, sound volume per zone).
