    • An interconnection system with a compliant shield between a connector and a substrate such as a PCB. The compliant shield may provide current flow paths between shields internal to the connector and ground structures of the PCB. The connector, compliant shield and PCB may be configured to provide current flow in locations relative to signal conductors that provide desirable signal integrity for signals carried by the signal conductors. In some embodiments, the current flow paths may be adjacent the signal conductors, offset in a transverse direction from an axis of a pair of conductors. Such paths may be created by tabs extending from connector shields. A compliant conductive member of the compliant shield may contact the tabs and a conductive pad on a surface of the PCB. Shadow vias, running from the surface pad to internal ground structures may be positioned adjacent the tip of the tabs.

    • The present invention provides an electrical interconnection system comprising: a paddle card comprising a plurality of first contact pads positioned on a first surface of the paddle card and a plurality of second contact pads positioned on an opposite second surface of the paddle card; a first wafer comprising a plurality of first conductors each having a first contact portion; and a second wafer comprising a plurality of second conductors each having a second contact portion; wherein the first wafer and the second wafer are assembled together to have the first contact portion and the second contact portion face each other and be able to form a gap therebetween for accommodating at least part of the paddle card; each first contact portion is adapted to be in electrical contact with a corresponding first contact pad and each second contact portion is adapted to be in electrical contact with a corresponding second contact pad when the paddle card is at least partly accommodated in the gap.

    • An electrical connector system (100) includes a backplane connector (102) having a housing (120), signal contacts (126) held by the housing and shield plates (128) held by the housing. The housing includes a front (122) and a rear (124). The housing includes signal channels (138) extending along mating axes thereof between the front and the rear. The signal channels receive corresponding signal contacts. The housing includes slots that receive the shield plates. The signal contacts extend along the mating axes and are arranged in pairs carrying differential signals. The shield plates are electrically conductive and extend generally parallel to the mating axes between corresponding pairs of signal contacts to entirely peripherally surround the pairs of signal contacts to provide electrical shielding for the pairs of signal contacts.
