摘要： A personal audio device, such as a wireless telephone, generates an anti-noise signal from a microphone signal and injects the anti-noise signal into the speaker or other transducer output to cause cancellation of ambient audio sounds. The microphone measures the ambient environment, but also contains a component due to the transducer acoustic output. An adaptive filter is used to estimate the electro-acoustical path from the noise-canceling circuit through the transducer to the at least one microphone so that source audio can be removed from the microphone signal. A determination of the relative amount of the ambient sounds present in the microphone signal versus the amount of the transducer output of the source audio present in the microphone signal is made to determine whether to update the adaptive response.

摘要： A method for detecting failure in a noise cancellation system is provided. The noise cancellation system is operable to at least partially cancel an unwanted noise produced by a noise source. The method includes receiving a cancellation noise signal fro the noise cancellation system. The cancellation noise signal represents a cancellation noise that, when combined with a target noise, is operable to at least partially cancel the target noise. The method also includes receiving an error signal approximately representing a portion of the target noise that remains after the cancellation noise and the target noise are combined. The method also includes determining whether the signal level changed or remains unchanged for each of the received cancellation noise signal and the error signal. The method also includes assigning a failure state of the noise cancellation system based on the determination and initiating a remedial measure that corresponds with the assigned failure state.

摘要： Active-noise-reduction (ANR) headsets protect the hearing of their users from loud persistent noises, such as airplane engines and construction equipment. These headsets generally include ear speakers and special circuitry to cancel or suppress certain types of loud persistent noises. One problem the present inventor recognized with active headsets, particularly those manufactured in mass quantities, concerns the performance variations that stem from inevitable variations in the fit of their earcups against heads of their users. For example, in putting on and taking off these headsets, some users experience low-pitched noises. Accordingly, the inventor devised, among other things, headsets that include front-cavity vents for equalizing the pressure between a front cavity portion of an earcup and an ambient environment.

If a first component of the first command signal exceeds a maximum allowable, the first component of the first command signal must be contrained. A residual vibration resulting form the constraint of the first component is then calculated. A second command signal to compensate for said residual vibration is then calculated. Force generators are then activated based upon the constrained first component and the secon command signal in order to reduce the vibration.

The device is used to linearise feedback control throughout a second frequency band broader than the first, to accelerate the convergence of the minimising algorithm, and to improve the strength of the feedforward filter.

The invention may be employed in combination with a public address system in an environment, such as an aircraft cabin, where noise control is required.
