    • Documentation pertaining to intelligent field devices (14, 15) is maintained in digital format in a centralized document server (DS) for a number of automation systems. The field devices (14, 15) contain document identification information (DIP) stored in them to unambiguously identify the device documentation pertaining to each field device. The identification information can be read using a field device configurator (21) for configuring and controlling field devices in an automation system over a two-way fieldbus. When the user of the configurator (21) wishes to obtain device documentation pertaining to a specific field device, the configurator (21) provides a field document server (FDS) residing in each automation system with one or more DIP parameters read from the field device. The field document server retrieves electronic documentation describing the field device identified by the DIP parameter(s) for display by the configurator user interface.

    • The present invention refers to a method for matching elements of a first protocol or standard with elements of a second protocol or standard in a process automation control planning of a plant wherein the elements of the first protocol or standard refer to input/output objects of logical nodes (3) established according to an IEC 61850 protocol and wherein the elements of the second protocol or standard refer to input (7) /output (9) arguments of control programs established according to an IEC 61131-3 standard, said control programs being aimed at driving actuation equipments associated to the logical nodes (3), said method comprising the following steps: configuring logical nodes (3) based on predefined classes of logical nodes (3) established according to the protocol IEC 61850 in order to define the input/output objects used by the said logical nodes (3), creating input (7) /output (9) arguments of control programs corresponding to the input/output objects of the logical nodes (3), establishing a matching between the said input (7) /output (9) arguments and the said input/output objects.

    • A machine monitoring system and method uses a machine monitoring device (MMD) which is connected to the monitored machine. Outputs from the machine are attached to input connectors on the MMD. The MMD receives inputs from the machine via the input connectors and performs desired transformations. Results of the transformations are stored in an on-board database system within the MMD. Reports on machine status, quality, maintenance, production, and performance are generated by consulting the database system. Reports can be generated at fixed intervals or on demand and may be transmitted over a network. A server, such as a web server or the like, resident within the MMD makes reports remotely viewable from client computing devices on the network via web page interfaces or the like and also allows for remote configuration of the MMD via such interfaces. The monitoring device also has output connectors for transmitting MMD output signals, such as digital output signals or the like, that may be used for activating buzzers, lights or email notifications that can be escalated. MMD output signals may also be used for pausing or stopping machines.
