    • A flange catching, aligning and closing tool (10) designed to facilitate the tie- in of spools and other similar mechanical assemblies that utilise a bolted flange for installation, for example, in subsea pipelines. The tool (10) has an elongate support member (12) having a locating pin (14) mounted adjacent one end with its longitudinal axis (16) substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis (18) of the support member (12). A slide assembly (20) is slidably mounted on the support member (12) and has a movable drift pin (22) provided in connection therewith. In use, when the locating pin (14) is located in a bolt hole on a first flange, a second flange can be brought into partial alignment with the first flange by engaging with the support member (12), and the drift pin (22) can be inserted in a matching bolt hole in the second flange to bring the two flanges into full alignment.

    • An internal spacer clamp for use in welding one end of a pipe to an end of a second pipe. This includes a first spider ring (26) having a first set of pipe contacting pistons for engaging the interior of the first pipe and supported from a frame. A second spider ring (28) having a second set of pipe contacting pistons for engaging the interior of pipe. There is a first power piston (135) for driving each of the pistons in said first spider ring (26) in or out of its hole and a second power piston (38) for driving each said piston in the second spider ring (28) in and out. An air powered pipe spacing power piston (68) supported adjacent said second power piston (35) for moving the second spider ring (28) toward or away from the first spider ring (26). The housing of the spacing power piston is rigidly connected to the housing of the second power piston which is rigidly connected to a cup-like cover which connects the housing of the second power piston to the second spider ring whereby movement in or out of the spacing housing moves the second spider ring either toward or away from the first spider ring. Control air valves control the sequence of pressurized air being supplied to drive the pistons of the power pistons in or out in a selected order.

    • When placing pipes, such as pipe sections, into a trench it is desirable to obviate the need for human intervention in an attempt to eliminate the potential for injury to operatives working in a trench caused by trench collapse. Disclosed herein is an automated device having a retractable side boom and an associated retractable descendent/downwardly extending boom. The device may further comprise a gripping assembly which is capable of setting a pipe gripped therein to a specific slope or gradient, thus allowing for maximum precision in for example a pipe laying process. The side and descendent booms are operable to deliver a pipe such as a pipe section into a trench.
