    • The present invention relates to a method for treating liquid flows at a chemical pulp mill comprising at least an alkaline cooking process for producing pulp, brown stock treatment with essentially closed liquid cycles, a pulp bleaching plant using ECF-bleaching, a chemical recovery plant comprising a chemical recovery boiler, and effluent purification. Chloride-containing bleaching plant effluents are led to the effluent purification, where they are treated in order to decrease the organic matter content thereof. At least 20 % of the purified effluent is returned to a pulp mill process and purified effluent is used in a last washing stage included in brown stock treatment. In the brown stock treatment the liquid flow is passed counter-currently to evaporation, wherefrom it is led for treatment to a recovery boiler process, wherein a separation process for chlorides is arranged for controlling the chloride level of the liquor cycle.

    • The invention concerns a method for the production of cellulose pulp in a continuous digester system in an energy-efficient manner. The method comprises an impregnation vessel in which to impregnate the chips, which chips are then fed to a subsequent digester vessel in a transfer fluid. A black liquor withdrawal is taken from the digester, which withdrawal is led to the bottom in order there to heat the chips before they are fed out from the impregnation vessel. A withdrawal of the transfer fluid is taken from the top of the digester and led to a position in order there to act as impregnation fluid in the impregnation vessel. The invention is characterised in that at least a portion of the transfer fluid that was withdrawn from the top of the digester passes an indirect heat exchanger, in which the transfer fluid withdrawn from the top of the digester at a temperature of at least 125 °C exchanges heat indirectly with a first fluid for the production of steam from the first fluid. The steam that is produced is then led to a steam pre-treatment position, upstream of the impregnation process, in order to heat the chips at the said steam pre- treatment position.

    • A method of papermaking having zero liquid discharge. A cellulosic pulp composed of either virgin or recycled materials is initially cleaned, the cleaned pulp is then washed and the washed pulp is then utilized in the papermaking process. The contaminants are separated from the liquid residue resulting from the pulp cleaning operation (3), preferably by floatation clarification (4), and the effluent from the clarification is evaporated to produce steam along with an evaporated residue. The evaporated residue is combined with the suspended solids and the combined residue is then subjected to a mechanical dewatering operation (5) so that the dewatered material can then be either landfilled or incinerated. The condensate from the evaporation is combined with fresh water and used in the papermaking process (9) and water recovered from the papermaking process (9) is recycled to the washing operation (8). Water recovered from the washing operation (8) can be recycled to the pulp cleaning (3) and pulping operations (1).
