摘要： Diesel fuels containing low concentrations of specific bimetallic or trimetallic fuel-borne catalysts reduce particulates and other emissions without the use of after treatment devices, such as filters or catalysts, e.g., diesel particulate filters (DPF's) or diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) in the case of diesel engines. By utilizing a fuel containing a fuel-soluble catalyst comprised of platinum and at least one additional metal comprising cerium and/or iron, production of pollutants of the type generated by incomplete combustion is reduced. Preferred fuel borne catalyst levels will be low, e.g., from 0.05 to 0.5 ppm for platinum and 3 to 8 ppm for cerium and/or iron, thereby providing effective engine out emissions reductions without any aftertreatment device. Performance of lightly catalyzed aftertreatment devices will be improved with the subject invention.

The said fuel is characterised in that it contains at least 20 ppm of the additive consisting of at least one monocarboxylic aliphatic hydrocarbon, saturated or unsaturate, of linear chain between 12 and 14 carbon atoms, and at least one polcyclic hydrocarbon compound, containing at least two cycles each formed of 5 to 6 atoms one of which at most is optionally a heteroatom such as nitrogen or oxygen and the other atoms are carbon atoms, these two cycles having further two carbon atoms in common, preferably vicinal, these said cycles being saturated or unsaturate, substituted or non-substituted by at least one single grouping selected among the carboxylic, amine carboxyl, ester and nitrile groupings, the fuel containing more than 60ppm of additive when the said combination is tall oil.

摘要： The invention provides a method employing a fuel additive to improve the operation of a pass-through oxidation catalyst over long periods of time with continued catalytic activity and without the undesirable conversion of SO2 to SO3. A pass-through catalyst support is continuously, selectively catalyzed by the combustion of a fuel containing a platinum group metal composition which burns to release the catalyst metal in active form. The effectiveness of the process is attributed to improved combustion in the engine by the catalyst and the treatment of the catalytic oxidizer with active catalyst metal released during combustion such that, in the exhaust system, the soluble organic fraction of the particulates and the levels of gaseous unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide are significantly reduced. The catalysts conditioned by the present invention cause minimal conversion of SO2 to SO3. The platinum group metal compositions soluble or dispersible in the diesel fuel and are added in amounts effective to provide concentrations of the metal in the fuel of less than 1 part per million (ppm).

摘要： The present invention relates to a process for reducing nitrogen oxides emissions from a diesel engine which comprises preparing an emulsion (80) of water in diesel fuel which contains a catalytically effective amount of catalyst composition (26) and a lubricity additive and supplying said emulsion to a diesel engine for combusting therein, whereby combustion of the emulsion leads to a reduction in the nitrogen oxides emissions from the diesel engine when compared with combustion of diesel fuel alone.
