    • A mouthpiece for a rebreather has a tubular housing having opposed inhale and exhale ends, a mouth port, and a discharge port. Supported for movement within a bore of the housing is a valve assembly which is magnetically biased toward a valve-closed position preventing air in an air space of the bore from moving to the exhale end and the discharge port. As a diver exhales into the mouth port, the increase in air pressure of the air space causes the valve assembly to assume a valve-open position, exposing a transverse channel extending between the air space and the discharge port, and a recirculation air channel extending between the air space and the exhale end. A portion of the exhaled air is exhausted to the ambient environment through the discharge port, while the remainder exits the mouthpiece at the exhale end for recirculation through the rebreather.

    • An improved self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) includes a large cylindrical tank of a first diameter having a first weight when holding a first quantity of a breathable gas under a first pressure, an on/off valve, a pressure regulator and a gas distribution device. The improvement comprises replacing the large tank with at least two smaller cylindrical tanks, each of a second diameter which is substantially smaller than the first diameter and a pressure header in fluid communication with each smaller tank and the on/off valve. The smaller tanks and the pressure header have a second combined weight when holding a second quantity of the breathable gas under a second pressure. The second combined weight is substantially the same as or less than the first weight when the first and second pressures are substantially the same and the first and second quantities of the breathable gas are substantially the same.

    • The present invention relates to an actuator housing, comprising a mechanical ON/OFF valve arrangement, at least one system pressure connection and at least one ambient pressure connection, said ON/OFF valve arrangement comprising a diaphragm arranged within the housing to have one side exposed to the environment and the other side exposed to an air chamber, wherein said valve is arranged to maintain an OFF-mode when the environmental pressure acting on said diaphragm is below a preset level and maintain an ON-mode when the environmental pressure acting on said diaphragm exceeds said preset level wherein said air chamber is connected to ambient pressure via a valve that is arranged to close said connection when a system pressure is applied that is substantially higher than that in the ambient pressure connection.
