    • A long travel constant contact side bearing for railway cars provides better handling characteristics, achieving improved tracking and curving through use of various combinations of features. Such a long travel side bearing is able to meet recent stringent American Association of Railroads standards, such as M-976. Lowered spring rates, preferably less than 6,000 lb/in., help with stability and reduce set-up sensitivity. Reduced cap and base dimensions and spring design help achieve travel of at least 5/8". A visual inspection windows allows ready inspection. Increased service life and wear characteristics are obtained by addition of hardened wear surfaces, improved tolerances, changes to Grade E steel, increase of top contact surface flatness and coped top surface peripheral edges. Standardized sets of spring components can be mixed and matched, requiring fewer specialty parts. Interchangeability of improper components can be prevented by a combination of keying features and/or spring lockout features.

    • A system and method for fixedly securing a roller side bearing to the top surface portion of a rail car truck assembly. Elongated threaded fasteners (60) pass through registered openings (50, 80) in a bearing cage bottom wall (42) and truck assembly top surface portion (82) in threaded receipt by locknuts (86) disposed on the under side of the top surface portion, A washer (68) captured on each fastener includes at least a portion thereof (70) which is closely interposed between the fastener head (62) and the bearing cage bottom wall (42) at the associated opening. The fasteners are rotated into threaded advancement with the locknuts to achieve fastener clamploads which fall within predetermined upper and lower limits. Each fastener head advantageously includes a hex type wrench receiving opening (66) which has a limited maximum torque capacity generally correlated to obtaining a fastener clampload no greater than the predetermined upper limit. The washer geometry facilitates use of better or improved fastener head fillets. In addition, the fasteners advantageously have undersized bodies or shanks (63) immediately adjacent the heads to reduce bending stresses experienced therein. The overall structural features and manner of installation provide a fatigue resistant, somewhat torque limiting roller side bearing mounting system and method. The results obtained enable the fasteners to withstand periodic bending loads applied thereagainst during normal rail car use.

    • The invention relates to a power generator assembly including a rotating part (16a) and a non-rotating part (16b).
