    • Electronic recreational machine using counters and forming a movable unit with a number of wheels in the base thereof and a footrest, with integrated coin selector and interactive screen with supporting means in the frontal-convex lower part thereof associated with an internal electronic circuit controlled by a CPU, said unit having at least one orifice for intake of counters and at least one orifice/tray for discharge of counters, characterised in that the machine defines a wide concave frontal recess containing: a) a variable-aperture orifice controlled by the CPU; such that the degree of aperture of said orifice can be preprogrammed to vary the difficulty of the game; b) a number of elements are fixed-aperture orifices with at least one of them being of variable aperture controlled by the CPU, such that the degree of aperture thereof can be preprogrammed in order to vary the difficulty of the game; said elements activate the internal electronic circuit with the passage of a counter and surround the variable-aperture orifice; each of said elements being connected with the internal electronic circuit controlled by the CPU; in such a way that the latter is activated when the former elements contact the counter, said elements being buttons which activate the internal electronic circuit on receiving the impact of a counter, and are positioned directly on the unit and the said variable-opening orifice is positioned in an added element, projecting from the unit. The degree of opening of the orifice varies continuously under control of the CPU. When the game is begun by putting enough coins in the slot to pay the session price, the counters are provided by the machine itself through the discharge slot/tray.

    • The present invention provides a sports toy (10) with multiple instructional modalities which combine auditory, visual, and kinesthetic stimulation to teach and reinforce language skills. In one embodiment, a sports toy comprises a goal (12) defining an aperture and a switch associated with the goal for indicating that a goal has been scored. A memory is operatively associated with the switch. A voice synthesizer is operatively associated with the memory and a speaker is in turn operatively associated with the voice synthesizer. Code stored in the memory causes sounds associated with language to sound from the speaker after the switch is activated. The sounds associated with the language include letter names, letter sounds, words, or phonics. The sports toy may also comprise an electronic visual display (40) operatively associated with the memory for displaying stored images, such as letters or words, after the switch is activated.

    • The invention includes simulated golf game in which a remotely controlled golfer (64) plays on a miniature course (8). The course (8) has all the characteristics of a real golf course, e.g., hills, valleys, sand traps, and trees. The golfer (64) is a model human figure who plays a miniature ball that is free to roll anywhere on the course (8). The golfer (64) is remotely controlled through an overhead gantry positioning mechanism that connects to the golfer's back by way of a small-diameter rigid tube (60). The gantry simulates walking by moving the tube (60), with the golfer (64) attached, about the golf course (8). Animation of the golfer itself is effected by a set of electric motors (28, 54, 65) driving cables (72, 71) running inside the tube (60). Multiple motors are operated simultaneously to give the golfer (64) a lifelike look. The motor operations are controlled by a computer (310). The game can be played by a person with a joystick control (306) that requires skill to manipulate. Alternatively, the computer (310) can play the game by itself by locating the ball's position with the aid of an overhead camera (98). The computer (310) can also assist the human player to varying degrees to provide the game with beginner and advanced levels of skill.
