The device includes: a user output arm movably attached to a base frame; an actuator attached between the user output arm and the base frame, the actuator including a motor and an output shaft connected to the user output arm; at least one position sensor attached to the actively controlled exercise device adjacent to the user output arm for detecting a position and velocity of the output arm; a load cell attached to the actively controlled exercise device adjacent to the actuator for detecting a force exerted on the user output arm; and a force controller in communication with the position sensor, the load cell, and the actuator for activating the actuator to impart a force on the user output arm during an exercise repetition.

The exercise machine includes a plurality of structural elements including a main vertical beam and a base frame operable to be positioned on the ground, where the main beam extends vertically from the base frame. The machine includes a plurality of pulleys mounted to the structural elements and a plurality of exercise cables running through the pulleys, where handles are coupled to the exercise cables. A seat is mounted to the vertical beam and the handles are positioned relative thereto to allow the user to grasp the handles and perform the several exercises for each arm.

The weight imparts a force resisting rotation of the selection arm by a flexible member engaged with the exercise component. 摘要： An exercise machine provides a housing for a pulley mechanism, the pulley mechanism being coupled by a cable to a user selected weight from a plurality of weights. A person uses the machine by bracing their lower body against a foot brace and thrusting their hips up against a core-engaging member. The core-engaging member, via the pulley system, resists the motion of the user and creates a strengthening workout thanks to the coupling between the plurality of weights and the core-engaging member via the pulley system. A variable amount of weight may be selected in order to adjust the difficulty of the exercise.
