    • A self-balancing mobile chassis (200), and a wheelchair (100) that uses such chassis (200). The chassis (200) comprises a frame (210) and a motor assembly. The frame (210) includes plural legs. In one embodiment, the motor assembly comprises two wheels (230,235) that are independently driven such that collaborative motions of the two wheels (230,235) enable the chassis (200) to be rotatable as well as linearly movable. The chassis (200) further includes one or more actuators (260a, 260b) connected between the frame (210) and the motor assembly. When the chassis (200) is deployed to be movable, the actuators (260a, 260b) lower the two wheels(230, 235) to touch a flat surface (510) so as to lift up the frame (210) without the legs touching the flat surface (510), causing the chassis (200) to be self-balanced by maneuvering the two wheels (230,235). When the chassis (200) is not deployed for moving, the actuators (260a, 260b) cause the two wheels (230,235) to be positioned above or rest on the flat surface (510) so that the legs hold the chassis (200) to be stationary. The wheelchair (100) is realizable by including the chassis (200), a shell covering (130) for covering the chassis (200) to provide an external aesthetic look to the wheelchair, and a seat (140) mounted on the chassis (200).

    • The invention relates to a braking device for wheeled chairs, the device (1) including at least two brake legs (2, 3) which can be lowered to, or raised from a substructure while being positionally movement-oriented with the aid of tubular members (4, 5) fixed to the chair frame, these vertical leg movements being actuable via urging means (6, 7) situated above the respective brake leg, the means performing a turning movement with the aid of a shaft (8), to which they are fixed, this movement resulting in one direction in arresting the chair moving the legs (2, 3) downwards into their braking position, and in the opposite direction in upward movement of the legs into their inactive position. The urging means comprise cams (9; 10) having their turning axis (11) coincident with the longitudinal axis of the shaft (8) to which they are fixed, their profiles (12; 13) having an elongate S-shape, and coact with the upper parts (16, 17) of the legs for obtaining maximum lifting height of the leg free ends (14, 15) from the substructure.
