摘要： Technologies are generally provided for a medical sponge configured to reduce a temperature at a surgical site. Endothermic reactants may be incorporated with the medical sponge to reduce a temperature at the surgical site in response to absorption of fluids. The sponge may be placed at a surgical site, and as the sponge absorbs fluids, the endothermic reactants may become hydrated. Hydration of the endothermic elements may induce an endothermic reaction, resulting in reduction of a temperature of the surrounding surgical site. The endothermic elements may be inserted within semi-permeable pouches that may be layered with the sponge. Additionally, endothermic elements may be inserted within hollow semi¬ permeable fibers and woven together to form the sponge. Hemostatic agents, antimicrobial agents, and analgesics may also be integrated with the medical sponge to prevent and treat other conditions experienced at the surgical site such as inflammation, pain, and infection.

Multiple embodiments of devices are disclosed for performing rapid induction and maintenance of therapeutic hypothermia either in a hospital setting or in the field so that hypothermic treatment can be quickly instituted before significant tissue damage occurs. Methods are also disclosed for targeting brain cooling by irrigating the upper airway, aerodigestive tract, and/or more generalized cooling by imgating the esophagus and/or stomach.

摘要： A heated underbody support comprising a heated mattress, heated mattress overlay or heated pad. The heated underbody support includes a heater assembly having an upper surface upon which a user directly or indirectly lays when the heated underbody support is in use. The heater assembly includes a flexible heating element including a sheet of conductive fabric having a substantially uniform Watt density. The heated underbody support also includes a layer of compressible material adapted to conform to the user's body when under pressure from the user resting upon the support. When the user lays upon the upper surface of the support, the heating element is adapted to adjust such that the temperature of the contact portion is less than the temperature of the non-contact portion of the support.

摘要： A combination underbody and overbody blanket has first and second portions sandwiching a middle portion. The first portion may be shorter than the second portion. An opening is provided at the middle portion, or at a location that overlaps the middle and first portions. The opening has a dimension sufficiently large to enable the head of a patient to pass through. At least one air inlet is provided at the middle portion to allow air to be input into the blanket. The blanket is configured in the shape of a poncho, with the first portion covering the front torso of the patient and the second portion covering the back of the patient. A tearable seal is provided at the first portion that allows the first portion to be separated into two halves to expose the front upper torso of the patient and/or to facilitate the placement of the middle portion about the neck and onto the shoulders of the patient.

摘要： A multi-zone electric heating blanket. The blanket may be shaped to cover the outstretched arms or other body parts of a patient. The blanket includes first and second body part portions and a connecting bridge. The interconnection via the bridge leaves an open gap between the first and second body part portions for unblocked access to the patient. A power controller may supply power to heating elements in both body part portions based on a temperature sensor in one of the body part portions.

The pad includes a viscoelastic foam body having a top portion and a bottom portion; a heating element at least partially disposed between the top portion and the bottom portion of the foam body; and an electrical connector having a proximal end portion enclosed within the foam body connected to the heating element and a distal end portion extending from the foam body, configured to directly or indirectly connect to a power source and/or control unit for the heating element. Optionally, the foam body is formed from a foam material having sufficient viscosity and resiliency to maintain positioning of the patient relative to the operating table during surgical procedures in which the operating table is moved to an inclined position.
