摘要： The disclosure provides implants, instruments and methods for bone fusion procedures. In some embodiments, the implants are particularly advantageous for use between opposing vertebral bodies to facilitate stabilization or arthrodesis of an intervertebral joint. The implants include, at least, a support component that provides structural support during fusion. In a typical embodiment, the implants also include a growth component. A growth component provides an environment conducive to new bone growth between the bones being fused. Several unique configurations to enhance fusion, instruments for insertion and methods for insertion are also disclosed.

摘要： An apparatus for facilitating fusion of adjacent bony structures includes an implant body dimensioned for positioning between adjacent bone structures to maintain the bone structures in desired spaced relation during interbody fusion. The implant body has an outer wall and an external threaded configuration disposed on the outer wall. At least one concave surface at least partially extends along the implant body. The concave surface advantageously reduces the transverse cross-sectional dimension of the implant member thereby facilitating placement of the implant member in restricted intervertebral areas. in addition, the concave surface enables placement of a pair of implants in nested side-by-side relation. Preferably, the threaded configuration has portions removed along an arc section of the outer wall thereby defining a series of generally longitudinally aligned concave surfaces in individual turns thereof. A system and method for facilitating fusion of adjacent vertebrae is also disclosed.

摘要： An apparatus for facilitating fusion of adjacent bony structures includes an implant body dimensioned for positioning between adjacent bone structures to maintain the bone structures in desired spaced relation during interbody fusion. The implant body defines a longitudinal axis and has an outer wall extending along the longitudinal axis. The outer wall includes a plurality of annular serrated portions spaced along the longitudinal axis. The annular serrated portions are dimensioned and configured to engage the adjacent bone structures to facilitate retention of the implant member therewithin. The implant member further include at least one concave surface at least partially extending along the longitudinal axis, whereby the transverse cross-sectional dimension along a first transverse axis inclusive of the concave surface is less than the transverse cross-sectional dimension along a second transverse axis. The concave surface extends substantially along the length of the implant member. Preferably, the implant body includes a pair of diametrically opposed concave wall surfaces.

In one embodiment, the instruments include paddles for spacing the adjacent bones a predetermined distance and a cutting edge to create a channel between the adjacent bones to receive a fusion implant. 摘要： A fusion implant apparatus for facilitating fusion of bone structures includes an implant member for positioning between opposed bone structures having a first ring-like segment (113a) and a second ring-like segment (113b) which engage one another in an end-to-end manner. Each ring-like segment includes an outer wall which defines an internal cavity for the reception of bone growth inducing substances. Each ring-like segment also includes a plurality of apertures (120) which extend through the outer wall of the ring-like segments in communication with the internal cavity to permit fusion of vertebral bone tissue. The first ring-like segment includes first and second mechanical interfaces. The first mechanical interface (125) is dimensioned to engage a corresponding mechanical interface (129) disposed on the second ring-like segment and the second mechanical interface is dimensioned to mechanically engage an end cap (40).

摘要： An electrical bone growth promotion apparatus and method for the delivery of electrical current to an implant, surgically implanted within the intervertebral space between two adjacent vertebrae of the spine to promote bone growth, and the fusion process to areas adjacent to the implant, is disclosed. The apparatus of the present invention comprises a self-contained implant (10) having a surgically implantable, renewable power supply (60) and related control circuitry (70) for delivering electrical current directly to the implant (10), and thus directly to the area in which the promotion of bone growth is desired. The desired areas of bone growth promotion may be controlled by conducting negative charge only to the desired location of bone growth promotion.
