    • A method and apparatus for placing a suture (22) transosseously through first (15) and second (21) transverse intersecting bone tunnels wherein a suture retriever spike (12) having a window (20) therethrough is inserted in one of the tunnels (15) and the window (20) is aligned with the bore of the other tunnel (21). Suture (22) is passed through this second or other tunnel (21) and on through the spike window (20) and there deposited. The suture retriever spike (12) is then removed from its tunnel (15) with the suture (22) passed through the window (20) of the spike (12), thereby transosseously retrieving the suture (22). The first or medial tunnel (15) may be formed by driving the suture retriever spike (12) into the bone (11) and the second lateral tunnel (21) may be formed by driving a suture passer awl (14) carrying suture (22) into the bone (11), which awl (14) is guided by the tunneler instrument (10) of the present invention to intersect with and pass through the window (20) of the suture retriever spike (12).

    • An implant manipulator 400 may have a distal end 312 that retains an implant 710, a proximal end 310, and an intermediate portion 414 between the ends 310, 312. The intermediate portion 414 may have a cross-sectional shape that extends along a nonlinear pathway 532. The intermediate portion 414 may have a selectively bendable portion 430 in which the cross-sectional shape varies to facilitate bending when desired. The implant manipulator 400 may be a needle for a suture passer 1200, with a suture capture feature 360 at the distal end 312. The suture capture feature 360 may have first and second members 350, 352 that flex apart to permit entry of the suture 710 into a suture capture hole 730 wherein the suture 710 is retained until released. A suture passer 1200 may receive the needle in a bore 1250 shaped to change the cross-sectional shape to facilitate or restrict bending of the needle, as needed.

    • A device for the transosseous insertion of suture threads comprises: - a main body (1), equipped with a grip (2), supporting a protruding cannula (3) provided with an active end (30); - a flexible thread-like element (4) which is housed in a coaxially sliding manner inside the cannula (3) and is suitable, on command, for exiting from the active end (30) of the cannula (3). The thread-like element (4) is made of a super-elastic, shape-memory material and thus has the property of freely assuming, at least in an adequate temperature range for which its operative use is foreseen, a natural and predetermined curved form at least in a determined portion of the terminal part thereof. Means are provided for producing the coaxial movement of the thread- like element (4) in the two directions relative to the cannula ( 3 ).
