    • A support assembly for a replacement ligament is disclosed, for positioning the ligament in a bone tunnel formed in a joint between two adjacent bones and reinforcing the joint. The support assembly has a particular use in the reconstmction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). One disclosed support assembly (24) comprises a fixation device (28) for a replacement ligament (26), the fixation device adapted to overlie a mouth (36) of a bone tunnel (16) and having a bone facing surface (34) which can abut an external surface (38) of a bone (12) to thereby position the ligament in the bone tunnel and support tensile loading on the ligament; a support element (30) for the replacement ligament, the support element being coupled to the fixation device and adapted to receive the ligament so that the ligament can be secured to the fixation device and thus positioned within the bone tunnel when the fixation device is located so that it overlies the tunnel mouth; and an extra-articular reinforcement element (32), the extra-articular reinforcement element being coupled to the fixation device and adapted to extend from the fixation device to an anchor point (54, 56) which is remote from the mouth of the bone tunnel, to provide extra-articular reinforcement for the joint.

    • There is disclosed a synthetic joint stabilisation device (10) and associated assembly, the device having a particular use in a method of stabilising a dislocated acromioclavicular joint. The joint stabilisation device (10) comprises a first elongate portion (22) forming a first free end (24); a second elongate portion (26) forming a second free end (28) which is opposite the first free end; and an integral eye (30) provided at a location which is between the first and second free ends, the eye serving for securing the device to a bone (19) of a patient. The device (10) is at least partly tubular so as to define an internal cavity (32), said part, of the device being of a woven material. One of the first and second elongate portions (22, 26) extends into the internal cavity (32) through a wall (34) of the other one of the first and second elongate portions at a first location (36) along a length of said other portion, and then extends out of the internal cavity at a second location (38) which is spaced along a length of said other portion from the first location, to thereby form a loop (40) which defines the eye.

    • The invention relates to an implantable prosthetic device for the repair of connective tissue in an animal or a human. In one embodiment, an implantable prosthetic device (100) for the repair of connective tissue (500) in an animal or human is disclosed which comprises a biocompatible pad (101) having an open structure to provide a scaffold for the in-growth of tissue into the pad; and a reinforcement region (206) attached to or formed integrally with the pad. The device is arranged so that it can be attached to tissue by forming a puncture (301) either a) within the reinforcement region, or b) in an area of the pad which is inboard of the reinforcement region, so that a suture (300) can be located through the puncture, the reinforcement region serving to support tensile loading in the device during use by resisting pull-through of the suture.

    • The invention relates to synthetic ligament assemblies for implantation in a body of a patient, such as synthetic ligament assemblies for the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). A synthetic ligament assembly (22) comprises an elongate woven ligament scaffold (26) which can be located in a tunnel (18, 20) in a bone (12, 14) wherein the scaffold has an internal space (40) in which an inner component (24) can be placed, which is treated to promote the in-growth of tissue following implantation. The scaffold is folded in a weftless region to form an eye (46) which receives a toggle (28). The scaffold and the inner component are secured in the bone tunnel by contact between the toggle and a surface of the bone.
