    • A method and system for reduced feedback transmit beamforming are provided. Some embodiments comprise computing a matrix of channel transfer function coefficients (406). The matrix of channel transfer function coefficients is compressed by applying a rotation matrix having orthogonal columns to the matrix of channel transfer function coefficients to produce a compressed transfer function matrix having a reduced number of non-zero coefficients (408). The compressed matrix is fed back to a transmitting unit (412). Decompression of the transfer function coefficient matrix is not required. This compression does not cause any performance degradation for transmit beamforming. The transmitting unit computes a set of beamsteering coefficients from the compressed matrix (416) and applies the coefficients to signals prior to transmission. The beamformed signals are transmitted (418) to the receiving unit and post-coded to allow the receiving unit to see an effective diagonalized channel (422).

    • Systems and methods comprising a leaf node predictor (310) for receiving a processed communications stream, determining at least one channel metric corresponding to the communications stream for a given channel realization, and generating at least three instructions to output, which at least one instruction corresponds to at least one predicted best leaf node candidate for the given channel realization. Further embodiments alternatively describe systems and methods which enumerate N 1 best values of a first symbol, enumerate N 2 (i) best values of a second symbol for an i-th best value of the first symbol, enumerate N 3 (i, j) best values of a third symbol for an i-th best value of the first symbol and j-th best value of the second symbol, combine enumerated best values of each symbol into a leaf-node value, and compute the cost of each leaf-node value enumerated.
