    • Medical system to be used in connection with an implantable heart stimulator provided with sensing and stimulating heart electrodes. The system comprises a predetermined number of electrode pairs (4), e.g. three patch electrodes, to be arranged at or within a human being or animal such that an electric field through the heart is generated between the electrodes of respective electrode pair. The electric field(s) is/are adapted to be generated by an excitation means (6), including electric field excitation voltage generators, connected to the electrodes, by applying alternating voltages at a preset frequency to the electrodes of the electrode pair(s). The system includes a signal receiving means (8) adapted to receive a signal representing the voltage potential difference between the voltage potential at one of the heart electrodes used as detecting electrode and a reference electrode, wherein the voltage potential is related to the generated electric field. The signal receiving means then to generates a potential difference signal that is applied to a signal controlling and processing means (10) adapted to process the detected potential difference signal in order to determine parameters representing heart activity.

    • An implantable flow sensor intended to be implanted into the circulatory system of a human being for sensing the flow of a body fluid comprises a heating element for heating a pyroelectric sensing element of a pyroelectric detector which is adapted to generate a temperature signal representing changes in temperature of its sensing element after interruption of the heating. A flow determining means is provided for determining from the temperature signal data about the body fluid flow rate from cooling of said sensing element after interruption of the heating. The heating element and the sensing element are one and the same, combined heating and sensing element (100). The combined heating and sensing element is piezoelectric, and a voltage source is provided for applying a vibration exciting voltage on the combined heating and sensing element for heating the element. A corresponding method for measuring the flow of the body fluid is described too.

    • Implantable heart stimulating device adapted to generate stimulation pulses at a stimulation rate to be applied to a patients heart, comprising an activity sensor (2), generating an activity signal (4) in response of detected activity of the patient, and a physiological parameter sensor (6), preferably a pressure sensor, generating a physiological sensor signal (8) in response of a detected physiological parameter. The activity and physiological sensor signals are applied to a control means (10, 12, 14) adapted to determine a stimulation rate based upon an stimulation rate algorithm in dependence of those signals, such that if the physiological signal indicates an emotional stress for the patient, the stimulation rate is increased to an adjustable emotional stress rate level and if no increase of the activity signal is indicated, during a predetermined time period from the stimulation rate increase, the stimulation rate is decreased.
