    • A process for desulphurising and dewaxing a hydrocarbon feedstock boiling in the gasoil boiling range to obtain a desulphurised and dewaxed gasoil fraction for use in an ultra low sulphur diesel fuel, comprising the following steps: (a) hydrodesulphurising the hydrocarbon feedstock boiling in the gasoil boiling range by contacting the feedstock in a hydrodesulphurisation reaction zone at elevated temperature and pressure, in the presence of hydrogen, with a hydrodesulphurisation catalyst and withdrawing a liquid hydrodesulphurisation effluent from the reaction zone; (b) catalytically dewaxing the liquid hydrodesulphurisation effluent to obtain a desulphurised and dewaxed gasoil fraction by contacting the liquid hydrodesulphurisation effluent, at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of hydrogen, with a stacked bed of catalysts having a first upstream bed of noble metal containing hydrofinishing catalyst and a second downstream bed of noble metal containing dewaxing catalyst, wherein hydrogen and the liquid effluent are countercurrently supplied to the stacked bed of catalysts.

    • The invention provides a process for hydrotreating and dewaxing a hydrocarbon feedstock, comprising the steps of: (a) hydrotreating the feedstock under hydrotreating conditions in a first reaction zone to obtain a first stage hydrotreated effluent; and (b) introducing at least part of the first stage hydrotreated effluent into a second reaction zone in which the first stage hydrotreated effluent is subjected to a series of alternating dewaxing steps and hydrotreating steps, which dewaxing steps are carried out under catalytically dewaxing conditions and the hydrotreating steps are carried out under hydrotreating conditions, wherein the first step in the series of alternating dewaxing and hydrotreating steps is a dewaxing step and the last step of the series of alternating dewaxing and hydrotreating steps is a hydrotreating step, and the dewaxing steps are carried out with a dewaxing catalyst which comprises a Group VIII metal hydrogenation component, dealuminated aluminosilicate zeolite crystallites and a low acidity refractory oxide binder material which is essentially free of alumina.

    • The invention provides a process for preparing a heavy base oil comprising the steps of: (a) providing a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock which contains at least 50% by weight of hydrocarbons boiling above 460 °C, nitrogen in amount in the range of from 800-2500 ppmw, and sulphur in an amount in the range of from 1.5-4.0 %wt ppmw; (b) hydrotreating the hydrocarbonaceous feedstock with a hydrotreating catalyst in the presence of a hydrogen- containing gas under hydrotreating conditions to obtain a hydrotreated product which contains nitrogen in an amount in the range of from 30-80 ppmw and sulphur in an amount in the range of from 200-450 ppmw; (c) removing at least 50% of the N¾ and ¾S which is present in the hydrotreated product as obtained in step (b); (d) catalytically dewaxing at least part of the hydrotreated product as obtained in step (c) with a dewaxing catalyst in the presence of a hydrogen- containing gas under catalytic dewaxing conditions to obtain a dewaxed product, which dewaxing catalyst comprises a Group VIII metal hydrogenation component, dealuminated aluminosilicate zeolite crystallites and a low acidity refractory oxide binder material which is essentially free of alumina; (e) hydrofinishing at least part of the dewaxed product as obtained in step (d) with a hydrofinishing catalyst in the presence of a hydrogen-containing gas under hydrofinishing conditions to obtain a heavy base oil; and (f) recovering the heavy base oil.

    • The invention provides a process for preparing a hydrowax comprising the steps of: (a) providing a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock which contains more than 4% by weight of hydrocarbons boiling in the range of from 550 to 800 °C; (b) hydrotreating the hydrocarbonaceous feedstock with a hydrotreating catalyst in the presence of a hydrogen- containing gas under hydrotreating conditions to obtain a hydrotreated product; (c) hydrocracking at least part of the hydrotreated product as obtained in step (b) with a hydrocracking catalyst in the presence of a hydrogen-containing gas under hydrocracking conditions to obtain a hydrocracked product, which hydrocracking catalyst contains a zeolitic component which is present in an amount of at least 14 wt%, based on the total weight of the hydrocracking catalyst, and wherein the volume ratio of the hydrotreating catalyst as used in step (b) and the hydrocracking catalyst is more than 1; and (d) recovering from the hydrocracked product as obtained in step (c) the hydrowax.
