摘要： A catalytic reactor (1) is provided with one or more reaction zones each formed of set(s) of reaction tubes (26, 34) containing a catalyst (27, 35) to promote chemical reaction within a feed stream. The reaction tubes (26, 34) are of helical configuration and are arranged in a substantially coaxial relationship to form a coil-like structure. Heat exchangers and steam generators can be formed by similar tube arrangements. In such manner, the reaction zone(s) and hence, the reactor (1) is compact and the pressure drop through components is minimized. The resultant compact form has improved heat transfer characteristics and is far easier to thermally insulate than prior art compact reactor designs. Various chemical reactions are contemplated within such coillike structures such that as steam methane reforming followed by water-gas shift. The coil-like structures can be housed within annular chambers (90, 92, 24) of a cylindrical housing (2) that also provide flow paths for various heat exchange fluids to heat and cool components.

摘要： A method and apparatus for producing an oxygen product in which air is separated in an installation including air separation units having higher and lower pressure columns. A pumped liquid stream generated within the installation, that can be a pumped liquid oxygen stream, is warmed within a main heat exchanger through indirect heat exchange with a compressed air stream to produce a liquid air stream. An impure oxygen stream is rectified within an auxiliary column to produce an oxygen containing stream that is introduced into the lower pressure column of each of the air separation units and intermediate liquid streams, composed of the liquid air stream or another air-like stream, reflux the lower pressure columns and the auxiliary column and optionally the higher pressure column of each of the air separation units.

摘要： An oxygen production method and apparatus including an air separation plant and a heat exchanger in which a pumped liquid oxygen stream is heated within the heat exchanger through indirect heat exchange with compressed air to produce a pressurized oxygen product. The liquid oxygen stream is pressurized to above about 55 bar (a) and no greater than about 150 bar (a) and is a supercritical fluid after having been heated. The air is compressed to an air pressure that is a function of the oxygen pressure that will result in a minimum power being expended in the compression of the air. The heat exchanger can be a brazed fin heat exchanger fabricated from aluminum in which the fins located in heat exchange passages have an undulating configuration to increase the flow path length and induce flow separation and thereby increase the heat transfer coefficient within the heat exchanger.

摘要： A method for establishing a cryogenic insulation system wherein aerogel is provided to a sealable insulation space (1) defined by an inner and outer wall (2, 3) which is pressurized and depressurized. The pressurization is accomplished by preferably using a condensable gas, preferably carbon dioxide, provided to the insulation space (1). The condensable gas is cooled to depressurize the insulation space by cooling at least one wall (2, 3) to a temperature less than 190K and cooled to cryogenic temperatures typically by the application of refrigeration from cryogenic liquid.

摘要： A compressed air stream is cooled to a temperature suitable for its rectification within a lower pressure heat exchanger (28) and a boosted pressure air stream is liquefied or converted to a dense phase fluid within a higher pressure heat exchanger (26) in order to vaporize pumped liquid products. Thermal balancing within the plant is effectuated with the use of waste nitrogen streams (110, 108) that are introduced into the higher and lower pressure heat exchangers. The heat exchangers are configured such that the flow area for the subsidiary waste nitrogen stream within the higher pressure heat exchanger (26) is less than that would otherwise be required so that the subsidiary waste nitrogen streams were subjected to equal pressure drops in the higher and lower pressure heat exchangers. This allows the higher pressure heat exchanger (26) be fabricated with a reduced height and therefore a decrease in fabrication costs.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing a pressurized product stream product by cryogenic rectification. A main heat exchanger, used in the cryogenic rectification, warms a pumped product stream composed of oxygen-rich or nitrogen-rich liquid and thereby produces the pressurized product stream. Layers of the main heat exchanger are designed such that a reduction in the heat transfer area provided within the main heat exchanger for warming the pumped product stream occurs at a location at which the temperature of the pumped product stream exceeds either the critical or a dew point temperature of such stream. The reduction in heat transfer area leaves regions of the layers able to heat or cool another stream that is used in connection with the cryogenic rectification. Such other stream can be a refrigerant stream that allows the introduction of additional refrigeration to increase production of liquid products.

摘要： An air separation method and apparatus in which a supercritical oxygen product is produced by heating a pumped liquid oxygen stream having a supercritical pressure, through indirect heat exchange with a boosted pressure air stream. The indirect heat exchange is conducted within a heat exchanger and a liquid nitrogen stream is vaporized in the heat exchanger to depress the pressure that would otherwise be required of the boosted pressure air stream to heat the pumped liquid oxygen stream. The pumped liquid oxygen stream constitutes 90 percent of the oxygen-rich liquid removed from an air separation unit in which the air is rectified, the liquid nitrogen constitutes at least 90 percent of the liquid nitrogen that is not used as reflux and a flow-rate ratio between the liquid nitrogen stream and the oxygen-rich liquid is between about 0.3 and 0.90.

摘要： An air separation method in which a liquid air stream, produced by vaporizing a pumped liquid oxygen stream, is introduced into a lower pressure column and optionally, a higher pressure column of an air separation unit. The liquid air stream is subcooled by extracting a main air feed to the higher pressure column from a main heat exchanger at a temperature warmer than the liquid air stream to increase argon recovery in an argon column connected to the lower pressure column.
