摘要： A system and method for flexible production of argon from a cryogenic air separation unit is provided. The cryogenic air separation unit is capable of operating in a 'no-argon' or 'low-argon' mode when argon demand is low or non-existent and then switching to operating in a 'high-argon' mode when argon is needed. The recovery of the argon products from the air separation unit is adjusted by varying the percentages of dirty shelf nitrogen and clean shelf nitrogen in the reflux stream directed to the lower pressure column. The cryogenic air separation unit and associated method also provides an efficient argon production/rejection process that minimizes the power consumption when the cryogenic air separation unit is operating in a 'no- argon' or 'low-argon' mode yet maintains the capability to produce higher volumes of argon products at full design capacity to meet argon product demands.

摘要： Split-core main heat exchangers are employed to warm up product streams generated in an air rectification unit (43) against 1) a main feed air stream (10a) in the low pressure heat exchanger (31) and 2) at least one boosted pressure air stream (11) in the high pressure heat exchanger (32). Because the boosted pressure air stream (11) is at a higher pressure and temperature than the main feed air stream (10a), after separate heat exchange in the split main heat exchangers, the subsidiary waste nitrogen stream (135) exiting the high pressure heat exchanger (32) is also warmer than the subsidiary waste nitrogen stream (134) exiting the low pressure heat exchanger (31). The warmer waste nitrogen stream (138) is fed into the air purification unit (3) for regeneration purposes and the cooler waste nitrogen stream (137) is introduced into the nitrogen water tower (4) to perform cooling duty. The two subsidiary waste nitrogen streams (134, 135) are also connected on the warm side of the main heat exchangers to allow flexible distribution of the flow.

摘要： A method for the liquefaction of an industrial gas (26, 44) by integration of a methanol plant and an air separation unit (ASU) is provided. The method can include the steps of: (a) providing a pressurized natural gas stream (24, 27), a pressurized purge gas stream (47, 48) composed predominately of hydrogen and originating from a methanol plant, and a pressurized air gas stream (112) comprising an air gas from the ASU; (b) expanding three different pressurized gases to produce three cooled streams (32, 61/62, 122), wherein the three different pressurized gases consist of the pressurized natural gas stream, the pressurized purge gas stream, and the pressurized air gas stream; and (c) liquefying the industrial gas in a liquefaction unit against the three cooled streams to produce a liquefied industrial gas stream (46), wherein the industrial gas to be liquefied is selected from the group consisting of a first portion of the pressurized natural gas stream (26, 44), a nitrogen gas stream, hydrogen and combinations thereof.

摘要： A cryogenic method for capturing carbon dioxide in the gaseous emissions produced from the fossil-energy combustion of solid, liquid, or gaseous fossil fuels in a power generation installation (12) employing an OxyFuel mode of combustion. The method includes: producing essentially pure carbon dioxide under elevated pressure and at near ambient temperatures in a Carbon-Dioxide Capture Component (10) from the carbon-dioxide content of at least a part of the gaseous emissions produced from fossil-energy fueled combustion in the Oxyfuel mode of combustion; separating atmospheric air in an Air Separation Component (12) into a stream of liquid nitrogen and a stream of high-purity oxygen; supplying low temperature, compressed purified air to a cryogenic air separation unit (cold box) (302) within the Air Separation Component; collecting low temperature thermal energy from coolers employed within the Carbon-Dioxide Capture Component and the Air Separation Component; and converting the collected thermal energy to electricity within a Thermal-Energy Conversion Component (14).
