摘要： A diversity receiver (300) has improved diversity weighting parameter estimation. The receiver different versions of a signal (101) having encoded data, combines the versions and decodes the data contained within the combination. The decoded data output is then re-encoded using a similar technique as that at a transmiter which transmitted the signal (101). The re-encoded data is then used to calculate a diversity weighting parameter which is used to modify a stored replica of each version. The modified versions are then combined and decoded to yield a more accurate estimate of the information contained within the signal (101) at diversity receiver (300).

摘要： A system and method for error correction in communication systems for transmission of digitized speech signals (Fig. 1). Sub-band coding is preferably applied to the input signal, and the sample information (102) and the side information (106, 108) provided. An error detection code (EDC) is applied to at least a portion of the side information (110) and an error correction code (ECC) is applied over the side information and the EDC (112). A second EDC is applied to the ECC (114). These information signals and error detection and correction codes are multiplexed (104), with the protected portion of the side information (PROT.) and the error correction code (ECC) separated by at least the sample information (Fig. 2). Speech signals are thus transmitted and reconstituted with improved quality with a minimum data rate required.

摘要： A dual mode radio communication unit (102, 104) for a digital communication system is provided having an error controller including an error detection encoder (111) and a forward error correction encoder (112) which encode an input information signal into an error protected data bit stream. In addition, the communication unit includes a mode selector which enables either the error detection encoder or the forward error correction encoder used with a particular mode of operation of the communication unit. Further, a corresponding dual mode radio communication unit is provided having an error controller for generating estimated information signal samples according to a group of algorithms consisting of either an error detection algorithm (261) or an error correction algorithm (202). The error detection system (200; 508) indicates bad frames of binary information signals (206; 408) which contain distorted bits in densities so great as to cause a convolutional decoder (212; 412) to generate an incorrect, decoded signal. A signal (418) decoded by a convolutional decoder (212; 412) is re-encoded by an encoder (224; 424), and the re-encoded signal (230; 430) is compared (256; 456) with the signal (206-248; 408-448) received by the receiver (340). When portions of the re-encoded signal (230; 430) differ too greatly from the actual, received signal (206-248; 408-448), a bad frame indication (286; 486) is generated.
